Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
The issue was the length of the tubing from both sides of the x-pipe where it attaches to the muffler was a bit too long (could force it to fit but it was much happier with 1/8" per side trimmed).
Leading evidence: 'length of the tubing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'length of the tubing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend money' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

How long have you been running the Top Gear setup?

How difficult was running the vacuum lines and switch.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the
Porsche
world and this site. Have been reading posts on all sorts of topics and really value the opinions of other more experienced owners. I know the whole debate on which
exhaust
system sounds best has waged on forever and am not trying to start that up again. I came across a system by Top Gear out of the UK. Stainless steel catted
headers
and valved
exhaust
at a reasonable price. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with this brand? Wondering about build quality, fitment issues, and of course sound. Thanks, Ddaniel
ddsiefert- Read Hyrax' thread on the track part where his NHP
headers
spit open and he had to fashion a beer can around the pipe and metal clamps for a temporary fix. You buy that stuff and take your chances, as they offer no return policy there according to Hyrax. I use
Soul
long tube catless
headers
as the State of Washington does not test car's older than 2009. I'm a
2007 Cayman S
.
I actually called the Top Gear number 2 years ago when the state went to this DEQ policy. After repeated calls, like 10 at different times of the day, I got the guy who runs the place. He told me he was back ordered on that model and offered no time line on where the product would show up from overseas. Maybe they have inproved their customer service now.
After that experience I went to John at
Soul
and Scott at Softronics for a package deal. The idea is to get the pulse waves matched from top to bottom, meaning from the intake harmonics through the combustion chamber and out the
exhaust
pipe working together. I already had the top end throttle body and intake manifold from the
987.1
Softronics race kit and flash, I just needed an update for the wave pulse and to smooth out the torque flat spot around 3500. Scott and John did their work very well. I've had no complaints about this setup. I just need to watch the tack closer to make sure I shift before 7000.
I think Hyrax had issues with an NHP header. As for the Top Gear
exhaust
, I have their full race
headers
and valved
exhaust
on my
987.2
. Got it from Sierra Race Supply and the shipping was very quick. Fitment was close but not perfect and the sound is wonderful. Time will tell how it's going to hold up to track abuse.
Good luck with your inquiry. He has been incommunicable for about 3 months or more. I wanted an update on his track engine oil issue. I was wrong about the brand of Hyrax's
headers
, They were NHP, which has nothing to do with Top Gear
Exhaust
.
It has 20 miles of street driving and about 2.5 hours of track time on it so far. The issue was the length of the tubing from both sides of the x-pipe where it attaches to the muffler was a bit too long (could force it to fit but it was much happier with 1/8" per side trimmed). I had the
headers
on the car prior to adding the valved
exhaust
and it aligned with the oem
exhaust
just fine so on my car it seems isolated to the valved
exhaust
.
Knowing what I know now, would I buy a Top Gear
exhaust
again? Yes.
Plenty happy with the sound. One thing I forgot to mention is to plan on buying proper mounting hardware and new oem gaskets for it. This seems to be the case with most exhausts at this price point though.
As for a durability update, I spent the entire weekend at COTA getting some track time (5 hours 5 minutes) without any
exhaust
issues.
Thanks for the follow up. I imagine COTA was awesome. I'm not sure if I'll ever make it that far west. I was expecting the hardware & gaskets. I'm talking with Hyrax about a system
Schnell
exhaust
I'm pretty sure is the same as the Top Gear, which if I'm not mistaken is a clone/copy of the
Soul
Performance. I just installed one on my 987S and I'm happy with it. As JayL mentioned, it fits a lot better if you trim the drivers side a tiny bit. Mine was about 1/4" longer that side, causing difficulty mounting everything.
Sound wise it's really fantastic and under WOT makes some pretty epic tones
Palestar, Thanks for your input. Definitely leaning towards the Top Gear as my choice. How difficult was running the vacuum lines and switch. Does it come with instructions on that part.
I didn't buy the valved version, just the regular one, so not sure on the vacuum lines. Personally it's not that loud, so I think the valved version is a bit overkill. It's not like its straight-pipes or anything like that...
