Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As for the "airbag service" - pull the fuse, watch the fault light come on, reset the light, and stamp the book.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My V reg cab is scheduled for its 8yr service, which in theory is at 96k miles even though its only done 55k.
I just checked the
service menu
, and it seems to come to £1,065, which gave me a bit of a shock.
Have I read the menu correctly? I think I need: major service, spark plugs, fuel filter & drive belt, transmission oil, brake fluid. I hope I havent missed anything off, which would make it even more.
I dont suppose any of these can wait until next year?
Any advice would be great, Josh
Do you need an OPC stamp in the book?
My local specialist charges £365 + vat for a 48k, I can't imagine it'd need a lot more for the 96k except fluids.
It might be worth asking them whether they'd price match... some OPCs are getting quite commercial these days.
If you do really need the stamp, I suggest to go for the Service and nothing more.
Get the rest done at reputable Indy. JZM are pretty good, see what they quote you on the rest of the items.
This way, you'll get the stamp for the main service and the rest done at probably better then OPC standards.
Dont forget that once its in, OPC will likely to suggest you wipers, brakes, discs, suspension, geo, front bumper debris removal, bonnet vent clearance ect ect
forgot to add - pop down to Cosco and pickup 5L of Mobil oil, hand it in to OPC during service and save yourself another £100 odd or so.
and of course, PCGB members get a further 10% off. Mention it and if required, take out the membership (as long as there cost savings are still there).
Thats the big question! Do you need the OPC stamp??
Or I'd go with an indy
I now use my local garage as I know himand trust his work and it saves me a fortune!
Last major service I had new Discs and pads!!
Turned out to be Brembo as I recall.
The OPC boxes are OE bits with big big mark ups!!
I really hate the rip off culture Porsche and Merc seem to adopt!
I had to drop my merc in last week!! £100 + VAT AN HOUR!!!
:x COME ON!!!
Doesn't it also need an airbag service/check at 8 years? The stamps you need are the service, the brake fluid change and the airbag service, to keep it's history intact.
Seagull - it does need an airbag check, as you mention. I couldnt find that on the menu, so assumed it might be included in the major service cost. But reading that back to myself, I realise how stupid that sounds...
Thanks for all the replies. Its only at OPC because:
- I have the warranty and they usually find something to do under warranty
- its at the OPC bodyshop anyway getting some scratches repaired
Have phoned Camtune to get their quote. Will let you know what I find.
In case anyone is interested in the comparable prices:
96k service (major service, spark plugs, fuel filter & drive belt, transmission oil, brake fluid)
OPC £1,065 (doesnt specify if it includes airbag check)
Camtune £838 (includes airbag check)
£227 saving, which has to be balanced against me needing to take an extra 2 trips to drop/collect car from Camtune, and maybe even a return trip to OPC if Camtune find any work that is covered under warranty. (Car is already at OPC getting panels re-sprayed).
With my 3, I am going to have full OPC history till she is 10 years old..
I don't have a warranty, but just think first 10 year OPC history looks good.
I do however take her to Parr for any other work required Disc/Pads/Geo etc..
Thanks for the price update - It not as cheap as I would of thought. Dont forget your PCGB discount and it only be ~£100 up, comparatively.
How about asking OPC if there are willing to price match? (it doesn't hurt!)
... Ive read here that some OPC are willing enough to do it.
The main difference between a 48K and a 96K is that the transmission fluid needs changing, and OPCs really know how to charge for that.
As for the "airbag service" - pull the fuse, watch the fault light come on, reset the light, and stamp the book. 5 minutes, job done.
Camtune sound quite pricey to me on that basis, my Indy is much cheaper, and they seem to do a very good job (been using them for 3 years now and not had any problems relating to anything they have touched). I also get to speak to the person that actually does the work and I get free collection and delivery thrown in.
As far as resale is concerned, most enthusiasts will rate a Porsche specialist stamp at least as high as an OPC (in my case higher) as OPC technicians are primarily 'box-fitters':
ie. plug in to diagnostics tool, replace item found faulty, check if it works, if so, send it out and charge the earth...
If it doesn't work, test again and fit another box, and charge the earth for both boxes! Then when it goes wrong again 6 months later, charge hours of diagnostic time trying to find out why it failed in the first place!
OK, slightly cynical view from an insider in the industry, but I'm sure many of us can relate to the scenario? :?:
Most reputable Indies are like-minded enthusiasts that only have their reputation to keep people coming back (not just for the 'right stamp' in the book) and make sure they have found the cause of the problem, rather than just fixing the symptoms.
My 96K service gave me change from £400!
