Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If so, I was thinking whether it would be possible to write a little PC app to both interrogate the data and set things - such as turn on the outside air temp display that mine doesn't have.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard's comment in another thread where he said the Durametric unit "is much more versatile than a simple code reader, and will allow you to interrogate the other systems on the car - not just the DME", made me start thinking ... Is the specification for the 996's diagnositic data interface and the data protocols themselves publically available information? Presumably it must be available or 3rd party companies such as Durametric wouldn't be able to build their units? Does anyone know ? If so, I was thinking whether it would be possible to write a little PC app to both interrogate the data and set things - such as turn on the outside air temp display that mine doesn't have.

POST 2Original post

Durametric haven't added the OBC coding to their unit, and it has been on their workbook for quite a while. The 993 boys have a simple reader developed by someone on Rennlist for the DME (and airbags?) I believe. Might be worth dropping an email to Maurice Piper (MoC2S), as I know he built a couple of kits. I believe it works with Motronic Version 3 and 5.2, but not sure about others.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
