After it was reset and new tyres fitted, I got perfectly even wear on 3 sets of rears (12000 miles each set).

Suggestion

Properly set, the tyres on the Cup car will wear evenly, yet if you put 4 deg on a road car it will wear the inside edges very quickly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just noticed both rera tyres are worn out on inner edge on my C4. Is this a common trait for these cars?

POST 3Original post

It might be common, but it isn't right. Get your alignment checked, as you probably have too much toe-in or negative camber.

POST 4Original post

Why do you say that Richard? My 4S did the same on standard geo and a more sporty one, my GT3 definitely does but that's a common trait

POST 5Original post

Hi Richard, I'm a little surprised by this, as I understand it's the standard set up for the 996 (and Boxster for that matter).

POST 6Original post

Same tyre wear on my 996TT with fast road geometry.

POST 7Original post

When I bought my C2, the inner edges of the rears were worn much more than the outer. When the geometry was checked, it had too much negative camber. After it was reset and new tyres fitted, I got perfectly even wear on 3 sets of rears (12000 miles each set). I ran standard 36/44 pressures (18" wheels) all the time too. Despite others thinking they can do better, Porsche usually get this sort of thing right. For example, a race GT3 Cup car runs about 4 degrees of negative camber at the rear (depending on tyre make), whereas the road car runs 1.5 degrees. Properly set, the tyres on the Cup car will wear evenly, yet if you put 4 deg on a road car it will wear the inside edges very quickly. Just my 2p's worth.
