Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Pop you ignition key in and turn to position 2, then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and leave for 5-10 minutes then re connect battery and turn off and on again and as if by magic should all work again.

It did for mine anyway, something o do with resetting memory.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My battery on a 996 02 Targa went flat, had to do the old wake the neighbours up with the alarm trick while you connect a donor battery to the fuse box terminal and door latch to open the bonnet. Only problem is now the drivers door window will not work. It drops the 10mm or so when you open the door but will not respond to the switch. Have tried the drivers door switch on the passenger window and that works fine. From what I can see both windows are on the same fuse, but I dont know about relays etc- if there are any. Any ideas ? or if not how do I get the door inner panel off ?
Stop!!! Don't take the door panel off!! Pop you ignition key in and turn to position 2, then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and leave for 5-10 minutes then re connect battery and turn off and on again and as if by magic should all work again. It did for mine anyway, something o do with resetting memory. Mine did axactly what you describe and i spent an hour or so removing and refitting door panel. Doh!!

Have discovered that all other functionality still OK, window will drop when you hold the open on the key fob down, and then can raise it back up with the switch it just will not lower.
I take it that due to the fact that this is not just a simple up/down window on the switch, ie operates with door open and key fob, that this is controlled by an ecu somewhere ? is this the main vehicle ecu ? and I guess these can be reset ?
There is no programmable or resettable control unit for the windows, just some circuitry in the window motors themselves.
The signals for the 'comfort' function (for closing with the key) come from the alarm system and targa roof control units, and that signal goes directly to the window motors (not via the switch) - hence why the key closing works.
Do I understand your description correctly? Are you saying that the windows will raise with the switch when the door is open, but not when it is closed? That would be really wierd.
I have the wiring diagrams for the Targa. Send me a PM with your email address if you think they will be of use.
Or maybe you mean the window drops and raises the 10mm when you open and close the door.....
That being the case, and having swapped the switches side-to-side, it is possible that you could have a dodgy contact on one of the pin/sockets in the main door plug, or where the loom connects to the motor.
The window lowers when you lift the door handle to open the door.
Looks like its time to start taking the car apart to find the connectors.
I take it the door harness connector is behind the a-pillar trim on the body or is it in the door ?
Stu
remove fuse box cover ant you will find some posidrive screws around the edge of fuse box trim remove them and the whole trim will come away and you will find the connector , check it for water ingress...
