If the temperature rises when you are stationery your radiator fans could have failed - you should be able to hear them running when the temp light is on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I noticed that after some driving, the temperature gauge goes to 80-90 and the light keeps flashing? Any help will be much appreciated Regards Shaz

POST 2Original post

Your coolant needs topping up i think. Try topping up when car cold to fill line ( left hand side of boot). Flashing light should stop. If it returns reckon you've got a leak.

POST 3Original post

Make sure you use the correct coloured coolant, it's either red or blue. You can see the colour in your header tank. Do not mix colours as this will be bad for your seals. If the temperature rises when you are stationery your radiator fans could have failed - you should be able to hear them running when the temp light is on. Good luck! Ray

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm seems strange as I topped it up recently to a good level - which got rid of the constant light. But now the light appears after much driving with a reading of around 80.. I will check the level of coolant to see if it has gone down I mixed the same coolant - the pink one, ready mixed from halford

POST 5Original post

It sounds like you might have a cracked coolant bottle if you recently topped up. Older 996's are prone to this. Have a look around the bulkhead near the bottle for whitish residue on the paint just around the bottle area. The coolant level has to drop quite a long way down before the light stays on. TB

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi! Your probably light I checked the level and it is lower than what I topped it up to. I havent checked for any leak residue Do you know what it would cost to replace it? Is it something that can be done DIY for an amateur?
