I've used spacers of all sizes both on and off the track, and the only ones thatmake any differenceare the really big ones.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Anybody have any experience with wheel spacers? Do they change the feel of the car at all? Jack

POST 2Original post

Jack - I’ve had 6mm spacers on all 4 corners since March with no problems to report. Is there a diff in handling, next to none. zornet

POST 3Original post

I have 17 mm spacers on my rears, and no spacers on the front. Technically this widens the rear track and increases rear grip, but likely to increase understeer. I can't really tell any difference. If anything the car perhaps feels a little 'flatter' in corners? At the track I went 1 second slower than my last sessions, but this is more likely caused by tyres and temperature rather than anything else. I dont think the spacer helped, and doubt they got in the way. I have heard that front spacers can affect turn in. I did it for looks alone. They add a small amount of weight as well.

POST 4Original post

They are a must do. I used the Boothe spacers which are of incredible quality. 15mm on back and 6mm on the front and love them. The car handles really about the same. It does feel wider but the look is amazing. It really fills the car out.

POST 5Original post

Johnb - is your CS lowered? i thought Porsche recommended equal sizes (5mm) on all four corners. great if you got some pics of before and after. thanks.

POST 6Original post

My car has 5mm spacers on all four wheels. I have the stock 18' wheels. The spacers give it a wider stance and look. Other than that, I cannot tell any difference in the ride or handling.

POST 7Original post

I have the Boothe 6mm spacers but have noticed a little shake in the steering wheel above 80 so I not sure what it could be....any suggestions would be appreciated.

POST 8Original post

You'd have to go to 1' spacers or larger before you'll notice any difference in handling. And - 5mm is less than 1/4'. Make a 1/4' gap with your thumb and forefinger, and then stare at it while asking yourself if you think it would change the look of the car from 10 feet away (it won't), and how much money you're willing to throw away. I've used spacers of all sizes both on and off the track, and the only ones thatmake any differenceare the really big ones.

POST 9Original post

I guess you need to hear my words of wisdom. We have been making 4mm and 1/4 in. spacers for years and Porsche decided to go between and make a magic 5mm spacer. Wow, how did they think of such a thing? We now have a few hundred 5mm spacers ready for market. We just received a large shipment of 3 sizes of jewelry quality wheel bolts, 30mm, 38mm and 46mm. Now these will stop traffic. We have all of those sizes in Black Chrome. I can't rember who all asked us for the black ones, so if you are still there, I am ready to ship.

POST 10Original post

The 6mm in the front and the 15mm make a huge difference in the look I promise. (I have not lowered it yet) I will get some pics up in then next few days but it now fills the wheel wells perfectly. Also, as I said in a earlier post, the place I had them put on does a lot of high end cars and they said they do spacers all the time on Porsches, Ferrari's, Mercedes etc all the time and the Boothe spacers were the best quality that have ever seen. I highly recommend them. You will love it!!

POST 11Original post

If I where to put on 5 or 6mm spacers, would I need to use longer bolts? Ralph, what length black chrome bolts would i need for stock wheels and 5-6mm spacered wheels? Jack

POST 12Original post

Yes you need longer bolts. Boothe can set you up with not only the right size but also the best looking chrom bolts you have ever seen. Again their quality is awesome! Go 6mm on the front and 15mm on the back. You will not regret it!!

POST 13Original post

Jack, You would need our 30mm bolts for all wheels without spacers. That is the thread length of the standard wheel bolt. We use a 38mm bolt with the addition of a 5 or 6 mm spacer and a 46 mm bolt with our 15mm spacers.

POST 14Original post

Thanks very much everyone for their assistance. Jack

POST 15Original post

Can spacers be added to XRR wheels? Not recommended on catalogue though....

POST 16Original post

One note of caution on the spacers: I believe it was reported on this forum that spacing out the tires results in more road grit potentially hitting the outer surface of the rear body panels, rather than the inside of the wheel well. Hence more minor dings and scratches. Take it FWIW. I was considering spacers myself, but based on the above comments (good looks, adds weight, no handling gain, possible increased body wear), I'm going to pass. Best of luck,

POST 17Original post

Rocks are usually thrown fromthe front tires and the 6mm do not push the tires out far enough to throw things against the body. On the rears the stock tires already exceed the body at the bottoms of the rear fender and the 15mm just really fill it at the top more. After 700 miles with spacers with lots of construction and road work around there have been no scratches or dings. I think the handling does get better because of the wider track, plus it looks so much better. I recommend the 6mm/15mm Boothe Spacers to everyone. It is a MUST do mod!

POST 18Original post

i have the Techart spacers that comes with the wheels. my question is why is it only th the rear passenger side that rub against the fender whenever i hit a hump on a road? i thought these spacers are meant to be fit exactly?

POST 19Original post

My Boothe Spacers have never cause any rubbing and I am about to lower my car 1 1/2 inches and amd told it will still not ever rub. That is wierd - it could be a wheel/tire size issue. What size wheels. spacers and tires are you running? Edited by - johnb21 on 09/23/2006 08:50:01 AM

POST 20Original post

Tokz, Many Porsches are built such that they are tighter on the right rear fender. Visualize that the body is pushed over toward the driver's side on a left hand drive car. I own two Porsches that are this way and they were built that way. It is not because of an accident or modification or such. On my 993 Turbo, I installed 15mm spacers on the right hand side and 21mm spacers on the left hand size. There is 1/4 inch difference from one side to the other. That is what it takes to place the wheel/tire assembly in exact same position on each side. I can not confirm it, but conversely the opposite must be true on right hand drive cars. Maybe someone could comment on that fact. If anyone worries about a grain of sand hitting their body work, you should not take the car out of your garage. I have experienced far greater damage from debris that is thrown up into the air by other cars and trucks.

POST 21Original post

John: i think my rear wheels is 305 in width and its 20' the other problem that i notice is that the driver rear side, will have a little of the chamber but the passenger rear would just stand straight. can this be the reason why it only rub the passenger side? boothe: if that was the case, the right hand side tend to be tighter, how can i ask for a different spacers from techart?since the spacers came together with the wheels? I might get the fender rolled today and see how it goes.

POST 22Original post

Tokz, I would hold off awhile before I would roll a fender. In fact, I would never do it as there are other solutions. We make a 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, and 15mm spacer for this application. I am sure that one of these sizes would fix your problem.

POST 23Original post

Tokz- Everyone who has dealt with Boothe or has Boothe Spacers will tell you they know their stuff. I am sure they can solve your problem. They also make the finest quality spacers and bolts out there. When I had mine put on at a local high-end shop their guy who did it was blown away by the quality and he does wheels and spacers all day long on Porsches, Ferraris, Mercedes etc. They will fix you up with the knowledge and the best products.

POST 24Original post

omg, i just realized that the mod shop gave me H&R spacers instead of Techart spacers. will the brand difference cause any problem? johnb21:i heard a lot of good review about boothe but i'm the person who does not like to wait or do the ordering, i prefer to have the mod shop to order everything for me. but i should be more careful next time after this incident.

POST 25Original post

Boothe had the spacers to me in just a couple of days and I had a 'high-end' wheel & tire place near my house put them on. They charged $50 and it took 15 minutes on the way to work w/o having to get dirty.
