The drivers seat is looking a little tired (not as bad as most 996s of this age to be fair though) and I was wondering how easy it was to replace the foam between the seat and the leather?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, The drivers seat is looking a little tired (not as bad as most 996s of this age to be fair though) and I was wondering how easy it was to replace the foam between the seat and the leather? Is this a DIY job, an OPC job or a leather car seat restorer? Cheers, GD

POST 2Original post

Seat restorer should be able to sort this, but where to source the part? If new from OPC is the only option it won't be cheap I guess! A passenger seat from a LHD car would be ideal, if you find one at a breakers, or ship one in from Europe!

POST 3Original post

You can buy the foam parts of the seat. Depending on what type of seat you have (comfort/sport) and if you have seat heaters or not, they cost between £100 and £200 for a set. Alternatively, you could try someone like Southbound Trimmers to sort it out for you.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers for the replies. It's just a standard seat without any heating element. Do you know if it is just a case of pulling out the central cushion part (ie. like the rear seats do) and replacing the foam, or does the entire seat leather have to be removed?

POST 5Original post

Richard, do you know where you can buy the foam from? Is it from an OPC? Cheers Taran :thumb:

POST 6Original post

Yes, they come from an OPC. You have to take the leather covering off the frame to replace them. Items 7, 8 & 9 on the attached.

POST 7Original post

If the seat foam is anything like the quality in the GT3 Recaros then going to any decent furniture/hardware store that sells foam to order might be a better bet. Do you think memory foam would make good seats? :?:

POST 8Original post

My daugther drives a company Merc E280 CDI Estate which has memory foam seats! Prices work out a bit more than I thought: £56.41 for the backrest frame cushion £37.61 for the backrest cushion £56.41 for the seat cushion All plus VAT

POST 9Original post

Might be cheaper to buy an entire Tempur mattress and cut it yourself......just don't tell the wife

POST 10Original post

umm, I think this thread may answer another question I have. On my drivers seat, the front right part stitching has come away at the join. Basically, directly underneath your hamstring, the side leather bit joins the middle leather bit, and at the front the sitching has come apart. think this is cos I am a big unit and I 'slide' into my seat from a dizzy height, rather than floating down graciously. From what Richard says, it sounds like I can remove this leather and re-do the stitches from the inside, and then put the leather back on? Does that sound sensible? How easy is it?

POST 11Original post

It's not too bad a job once you have the seat out and upside down. If you would like instructions, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send them to you.
