Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
I am sure this was caused by the entire hatch moving relative to the cars.
Leading evidence: 'entire hatch moving relative' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'entire hatch moving relative' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust right or an additional component......i'll be anxious' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Clunk - was advised to adjust the rubber bumpers on the hatch IN (not out as I would have expected!).

I haven't bothered to have it looked at by dealer, but will add to list when I take it for a 5000mi oil change later this month.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Clunk - was advised to adjust the rubber bumpers on the hatch IN (not out as I would have expected!). I think I'm also hearing the rattle from the passenger side B pillar but I'll have to listen carefully.
I would be anxious to see why some do and some don't. You definitely would notice it if you had the issue. People who aren't experiencing it must have something adjusted right or an additional component......I'll be anxious to see
Early build 2007 2.7 Cayman. Clunk, and I think I have some rattle from either the privacy screen, third brake light, or both.
Had it in the the dealer in Houston and they made it better, but still happens some. I will take it to a dealer here in So Cal again before the warranty ends, or if I need to go in for some other reason (oil change, etc).
Delivery 4/06 w/ clunk noted on the way home from delivery. I haven't bothered to have it looked at by dealer, but will add to list when I take it for a 5000mi oil change later this month.
A bit late now, but wouldn't the poll have more value w/added options rather than "yes" or "no?" Wheel size & PASM or not could be relevant in determining why some cars do & some don't clunk.
I've got no clunk w/PASM & either my 18" or 19" wheels.
Only 780 miles on her so far, I have 19" with PASM and have driven over plenty of speed humps in Cornwall this last weekend. No clunk.
I should also point out that the smaller (square) humps - one in each lane which you can sort of stradlle, I was taking at 15-20 mph. Full road width humps and other types are generally slow to a few mph and gently move accross so I would not expect to hear any Clunk then.
I'm with Yancy in my surprise of the ratios.
I've observed that people (ie. friends and family) have different interpretations of what the "clunk is". Having driven a lot of hatchbacks, most of them make some noise when going over bumps. It can't help it. The hatch is a large somewhat heavy plate bouncing around on three or four support points, one of them being a spring loaded latch! It's going to make
some
noise. This is not a clunk! I've test driven a CS that had the clunk and it's startling, not a muffled "thump" heard in many hatchbacks.
I wonder how many in the "clunk" category are expecting total silence from their hatchback and calling what they hear a clunk? More importantly, how many that claim they have the clunk have gone to the dealer and driven other Caymans to compare?
I'm not questioning anyone's claim that they have a "clunk". It's just that there's a lot of personal interpretation in such a binary poll. "One persons silence is another person's clunk".
I didn't vote because I haven't taken delivery yet. But I did hear something during my test drive. I didn't hear the hard metal to metal clunk discussed here, but I did here a super low frequency boom when the rear wheels hopped over a sharp lip in the pavement. I am sure this was caused by the entire hatch moving relative to the cars.
Yes, I experience that too. It's like an oscillating woofer caused by an instable tube circuit in my stereo. You feel it in your ears, like a change in air pressure.
Back to the clunk, it's real, and it's not the hatch itself hitting the bodywork. A tree root growing under the pavement (resulting in a v-shaped "speed bump") causes the "clunk" almost 100% of the time. We have one of these pavement "crackers" on on a 35mph road in our neighborhood. I slow down, and it still clunks.
I just haven't taken the time to effect the "fix" posted on this site.
