Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is it possible to have the tiptronic box in a 2002 996 flashed to achieve better gear selection. No matter what I do it always seems to be in too high a gear. Under normal excelleration it is probably in 5th by the time you hit 45mph, is this correct ? People have told me its a learning system, so I've tried thrashing the nuts off it for a few days to teach it who's boss, but NO, drive it normally and it just wants to get to 5th as quickly as it can.

POST 3Original post

Does it sound like this? Cos that's tuned to perfection... http://www.zen89393.zen.co.uk/Archive/Sounds/tiptronic.wav

POST 5Original post

That's completely normal. It doesn't adapt over a few days/months and simply change the gearing to shift later. If you are driving it hard, then it changes it's behaviour, but only for a very short amount of time (eg. that drive). The facelift Tip has the Turbo programming already. As the previous poster suggested, you get the Tip box to shift later by getting to learn how to drive with the system. eg. pushing your foot down quicker will cause the revs to be held longer and shift later. Normal driving will shift early, to get optimal mpg/performance.

POST 6Original post

Does take a bit of gettin used to and in the early days I did find myself in fifth when I wanted fourth. But learning how far to move the throttle makes a difference to which map it goes into. Do a search as I found a very good article on the Renn(?) site on Tiptronic driving techniques that helped a lot.
