I don't believe you get any discount for having the service done at the same time as the inspection check and certainly having to pay £200 in the first year and £100 in each subsequent years when the majority of items are checked during the service anyway seems a little mad.

I have just been having a quick browse over on the PH Forum and there is a HUGE thread on there about how Porsche UK are nearly doubling the price of warranty and making it compulsory to have the 111 point check every year????
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

d) the sliding scale of cars (996 C2 right through to Cayenne Turbo/GT3/997 Turbo - clearly a massive difference to maintain and repair) for exactly the same £1450 (£1350 subsequently).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Top tip: some of the info in the earlier posts is incorrect, and is corrected/clarified in the later posts.
porsche are hiking the price of their warranty to over £1400 and if you are wanting one you have to have owned your vehicle for 90 days so if you buy it privatly and not from opc your screwed if anything goes bang in them first 90 days...
basically a wing and a prayer needed..... :?
oct this happens i think, sure more will be along to tell
I had a long phone call from Porsceh GB's legal dept asking for my address so they could write to me or take me me to court as i was devaluing the brand and its image for saying on my website
there may never be a better time than before october to buy a Porsche
and explaing the change in the warranty system
*****!....sounds to me like they've got more long standing issues and they are coming out of the woodwork on the newer range of cars. Stinks of trying to deter you from taking out the warranty if you ask me.
Unless of course they are saying the new warranty only applies to cars delivered after October '08.
If it goes up in price in October then I might go for it now! My car has previously had the full porsche warranty which has expired so I assume they'll cover it?
yup, just brought tesco's finest warranty (sic!!). no claim limit, work done at OPC, wear and tear included, no 111 point pre check, interest free credit over 10 months for premium -- and clubcard points :floor:
£419 so we'll see what occurs if and when i claim though i can't see the catch......................
This really is disgusting in my opinion
When I bought my 911 5 months ago I felt I was buying my dream. Since purchasing it all I hear is doom and gloom about depreciation and now this :frustrated:
Maybe we should be asking ourselves is it all worth it? What I thought was a dream is turning out to be a small nightmare with all this scare mongering and sometimes I feel I should just jump ship now :?
The Tesco warranty specifically excludes the 911 in the policy detail.
Tesco's are making this more explicit on the Internet, although I believe will be honoured if it's already taken out....have a read on the PH forum, where this is discussed with Tesco CS at length.
Personally, I think the £895 policy was extremely good value and has certainly been abused, ie. cars only having warranty work done at the OPC and moving all the other work (including service) to an Indy.
...and definitely by us consumers, by buying cars at significantly cheaper rates, yet having the backing of if it was bought from a main dealer (with 111 point check).
Of course, you could argue that if OPC weren't ripping everyone off with the cost to change, then there wouldn't be a market for this business.
Certainly, most people on here claim that they are not down on the warranty, so this is clearly not economically viable for PCGB....although I've had 0 warranty work on my car and the few items that had failed (that I would have thought to be covered), were not!!!
Admittedly it's not been helped with the OPCs abusing the RMS situation and corrosion (wear and tear) on the front radiators being covered (which reminds me, I must hoover mine out).
The new warranty covers more items and I still believe is good value at £1250. The issue I have is why do I have to pay for a yearly 111 point check, when a) pre-2004 cars have to be serviced yearly at an OPC to qualify for the warranty anyway and b) it already has a warranty on it.
I don't believe you get any discount for having the service done at the same time as the inspection check and certainly having to pay £200 in the first year and £100 in each subsequent years when the majority of items are checked during the service anyway seems a little mad.
However, the biggest issue that is being talked about (Internet rumours of course) is that it's entirely possible for the OPC to refuse to offer you a warranty if they find some remedial work that needs to be completed, whether a warranty item, or otherwise!!!!
Eg. you need you tyres, brakes or other consumables (wear/tear items) that are not covered under warranty and would have no bearing on the warranty still must be fixed....so it's a license to print money.
Finally, if you car has an Indy stamp in the log book, they will not give you an extended warranty full stop.
At the end of the day, it's their extended warranty and apparently they can do what they like (and it's outside the block EU manufacturers warranty exemption).
I am still waiting to hear if the warranty is still 8 years / 125k miles and I'm hoping that the OPCs will be reasonable with this (eg. my car had no issues reported when it went through the 111 point check), although I understand that Porsche service staff are on a sales commission plan, so I'm sure this must have bearing on the advice that you're given (eg. worn discs).
The take away is that if you feel you are being short changed by OPC, then complain to PCGB about it. Certainly my local OPC is a few mm away from my phone call.
PS - I'd add, that whilst the increase is frustrating, it shouldn't really have a bearing on your decision to buy a 911 purchase really.
You're talking about a £500 increase on having peace of mind (on an expensive car (£20k to 60k) to run and maintain), which is not really a great deal in the scheme of things.
If your budget doesn't stretch that far, then I'd argue that you're probably looking at the wrong sort car for your next purchase anyway.
In a nutshell, what my frustration is
a) the requirement for a 111 point check at my cost
b) the ability to the OPC to refuse the warranty for remedial non-warranty item work
c) the speed that the old warranty has been withdrawn.
d) the sliding scale of cars (996 C2 right through to Cayenne Turbo/GT3/997 Turbo - clearly a massive difference to maintain and repair) for exactly the same £1450 (£1350 subsequently).
....and for that reason, it's practically a steal for the owners with high end Porsche.
Cheers,
GD
christ tesco must have amended the policy wording to exclude 911s in the last day or so cos i took mine out with them earlier this week and have heard nothing except acceptance email. Ah well, at least i will get a year of cheap warranty cover cos don't suppose they will let me renew next year :hand:
