Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

one of the magazines is running a story this month (sept) about the 15k 996 :?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A lot of the early 996s for sale at the moment need work, generally RMS, clutch and/or aircon. There are some that are in good nick though, and the price being asked doesn't vary that much. I picked up a C2 in good condition with 70k on the clock for around 17k (including a tradein, so it's hard to value exactly) and I'm very happy with it.
Lots of cars with that degree of thirst are dropping in value, the one I traded in (a 6 year old BMW coupe in great condition) had lost about 20-30% of it's value in the last year.
You should see what 997's are changing hands for!!! Even more worrying as I paid £75K for mine
Look at this very low mileage cabrio Mark is selling:

How cheap?
I just purchased a 2004 c4s with 40k pcm bose ect for 32k i think that was a cheap car compared to what they where a few months ago. But people are just scared at the moment look at house prices you just wouldn't sell in this market.
on the upside if yours has dropped so will the one you buy
If the only reason you want to go water to air is financial then yes, but that bubble is stressed too.
