Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am getting a dry bearing type noise from the engine, It does seem to come and go. It does not change when the clutch is depressed. It is not audible from outside the car. Has anybody else experienced similar? Any suggestions? Thanks

POST 2Original post

I had the same noise recently turned out to be one of the belts when checked by Steve Bull.

POST 3Original post

I was going to say belt or pump bearings, does it change with crank speed? Is it audible inside at idle or just when running at speed?

POST 5Original post

Should have said only at low speed (10 mph)and sounded like it was related to wheel rotation/besring and wasnt affected by depressing clutch

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I removed airbox and listened to bearings individually using long screwdriver pressed to my ear. So far investigations would suggest tensioner pulley as it sounded rough. I'll take it apart more fully on Saturday. cheers
