Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
I brought it in today to see what the problem was plus to fix a cupholder that doesn't want to come out and do an oil change (It now has 5K miles).
Leading evidence: 'plus' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'plus' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check pressure plate bolt at this time as well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I replaced the cats the day after I pick up my Cayman S.

Have 8500 miles on my car and both Cats being changed for CEL.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My Check Engine Light came on last week, with the "Visit the Workshop" message. I assumed it was either the catalytic converters or the gas cap.
I brought it in today to see what the problem was plus to fix a cupholder that doesn't want to come out and do an oil change (It now has 5K miles).
They called to tell me that they need it overnight and that they are replacing both the left and right cats. They weren't going to replace one and wait for the other one to go bad. The service rep stated that they have done several cats on caymans, but not boxsters.
I am still arguing over them wanting $225 for just an oil change, but I haven't won that battle yet. It's too cold to do here in CT right now.
Add another car to the cat replacement list.

I had my cats replaced a few months ago. They told me they had replaced the cats on another Cayman already. After having them replaced I had a buzzing noise from the engine compartment at about 3000 RPMs when the engine was warming up. I took it back and they said it was a loose O2 sensor. Now I don't get that buzzing noise, but I do get a slight buzzing noise at 3000RPM
after
the engine warms up.
Mine just hit 5,000 miles on the drive to the dealer. I hope I don't get a buzzing sound with the replacement and that's the first I have heard about that. It seems like they didn't install it correctly for you ALEXK?
Thanks for the input guys. I let you know how it all turns out.

Most likely, early Caymans came with 400 cel cats, Porsche swaps them out with 600 cel cats now and that seems to be preventing the C/E light. Boxsters didn't have the problem because the 3.2L engine didn't produce exhaust gases in the same way/volume to trip the O2 sensor and the ECU programming is a little different. This has been covered in topics on cats before but thought I'd add it to this thread again as well for future reference.
Thank you for your response. I called my Porsche dealer today, will bring it in for service on Monday. Should I have them check the Pressure plate bolt at this time as well?

The car has only 100 miles on it. I asked them to replace the car not fixing it.
It end up with getting an extended warranty for 7 years or 80000miles.
I have to replace mine (only one) today at 4400 miles.
Wish I read this thread sooner and demand both to be replaced instead of waiting for the other one to go bad.
At 12,000 mile, CEL illuminated. The cats are being replaced. I have an early car #0984, and they have the 400 CEL cats.
I'll be attentive for a buzz ...
No Buzz. And they didn't replace the cats. They pulled them out and tested the O2 sensors, found nothing abnormal. SO, they put everything back together. The light was reset and I have that new car, burning stuff off the exhaust smell for a little while.
And it cost nada.
