Some have requested more specific information the rubber O rings I used on Rainer's excellent article Stopping the Hatch "Clunk" (

.
Here are some images that I took of the damper inside the hatch liner:
Image of bottom rings on the damper mounts (shown upside down)
Stretching the bottom rings over the damper mounts
Installing the top rings before remounding the damper (shown upside up).

12 Day Cayman Owner
Picked up my Arctic Silver Cayman on 12/31/06. I have dreaded trunk clunk also only when I drive over a large bump.
Thanks for the tip on the repair. I am going to try to get my dealer to fix this issue.
Lots of threads on this, and which to post under is not obvious, so I thought I would use this one, which came up as a related thread while reading the Class Action thread.
A couple of observations based on my own "clunk" experience.
1. It seems that if I hit a bump with only the left side wheels, I will not get the clunk, but if I hit both wheels or just the right side, it is much more likely to occur. So, I have started to aim the left side wheels only at all road imperfections
2. There was some talk that many dealers are "fixing" the problem by adjusting the hatch somehow. Mine tried that, but failed, but in any event, the other day with the hatch up, I had a look at the two rubber bumpers on each corner of the hatch. What surprised the heck out of me was that they were very coarsely threaded, and in fact, you could unscrew them completely. I can't post pics, but what's up with that?
Mine are both almost fully extended and another 1/4 turn and they are in my hand. Seems like a very poor design, and sooner or later, one or the other is going to fall out un-noticed.

Brian, did you ask our dealer about recall W615? I don't have the issue so haven't bothered:
http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-complaints/3195-recall-w615-rear-hatch-buffers.html
Wow...first I heard of that. I am not sure what they did on the last visit. If these bumpers are the recalled items, I really wonder what the originals look like...and do they stay on better?
In fact, that is another minor compliant; on the two previous visits, they have not given me a service write up. The last time, they said they would mail it....guess I need to hound them about that.
I won't have time to head down there until I get back from Parade, but I will surely ask about it.
Thanks for this....I would have had NFI how to search on this one.

I just had my car (Thursday) at the dealer (The Auto Gallery Los Angeles) to have them fix the “clunk” and also, for them to check why sometimes when I start the car in the morning’s lots of white smog comes out. They had my car for 2 days and they did not find anything wrong. They did not hear the “clunk”, and that white smog coming out when the car is cold is normal in all mid engine Porsches, I was told.
I was told to drive the car for a couple of days and if the noise that was still there, to make an appointment for a test drive with the service adviser.
Does anyone in the LA area have been able to get the “clunk” fix at a dealer? The Auto Gallery service department in my opinion sucks.
My other question in regards to the clunk noise is: Is
Porsche
aware of this problem, and are they just ignoring it or will this service recall fix the problem?
I took my CS to the Auto Gallery this morning for the Trunk Clunk, they just called me and said oh there is nothing wrong with your car our service tech couldn't re-create the problem!!!! BS!!!!!!!!!!!! it is so loud it is obnoxious!!!! I also had the car there for engine/trans rattle on start up and shut down and My clutch engagement sucks and sometimes its chatters. I also get a clunk from the tranny when I push in the clutch when there is a little bind on the motor. I am pissed, so now i have to go down there and pick up the car they didn't even touch!
