Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening Went out for a long and very enjoyable drive this afternoon and noticed the door mirror glasses are slightly different. I think the drivers one looks earlier with the rubber frame. Both work perfectly well but just wondered if my guess is right . Cheers Ray

POST 2Original post

I think the right hand mirror is a self dipping one... do you have the self dipping interior mirror too?

POST 3Original post

It's the dimming type. They only fit them on one side.

POST 4Original post

Drivers side is the photosensitive type .. controlled by a button on the interior mirror .. it darkens with a bright light from behind .. headlights basically and is turned on and off from the interior mirror light button . I had thought they were fitted to both drivers and passengers side but i may well be wrong there .. It's common for a damaged one to be replaced with a non photosensitive mirror due to the cost of these ... they aint cheap thats for sure ! EDIT .. after a bit of digging i found the below info ..

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for speedy and informative replies. Yes I do have auto dim. I thought that was standard equipment. Every day is a school day Ray

POST 6Original post

On any normal prestige car of the era, it would have been standard, but not Porsche! Even then they only fitted a dimming drivers mirror so I still get dazzled by the passenger side. Strangely mine has a similar-looking mirror with a black edge on the passenger side too.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes should have realised with German cars everything is extra. Must have a good look through the handbook to see what else I may have missed Ray

POST 8Original post

My 997 has auto dimming mirrors on both doors and the replacement glass for the passenger side was an eye watering amount so the theory that it may have been changed for a non dimmer is possible, if you pull the glass out and look at the wiring connector you will be able to tell. The auto dim has a 4 wire plug 2 for the heater and 2 for the dimming.
