I have an 06 Cayman S, I was involved in an accident at about 13,000 kms after I got my car back from the body shop I noticed a brake judder problem, i'm not sure if this was related to the accident (no brake related items were replaced). Anyway I took it into the service centre at about 16,000 kms where the service manager visually inspected the brakes and said there was no damage to any of them and that there was about 50% of the brake pads left. He said that my 'sporty' driving may have caused the brake judder problem and said the brake discs would have to be skimmed.
Once getting the car back after the brake discs had been skimmed the brake judder problem had been resolved and the brakes felt considerable tighter when applied.
Now the problem I have from 16,000 kms to now (17,500 kms) is an annoying brake squael which happens pretty much all the time more so once the brakes have warmed up and when they are lightly applied. It says in the manual:
"Certain speeds, braking forces and ambient conditions (such as temperature and humidity) therefore might cause the brakes to squeal"
I feel that if I take the car in now I will be told this and nothing will be done to resolve this even though it is not an intermitent problem and happens almost everytime I drive it. Does anyone else encounter brake squeal with there Cayman? And how do you think I should proceed?
You may need to replace the pads. If there is dirt or debris embedded in the pad surfaces from the accident, your only choice is new pads. It's not a difficult job, if you have a jack and a little mechanical ability.
Wouldnt the embedded sand or debris come out after 5000 kms of driving (and braking)? Yeah I have a little bit of mechanical ability, how much would four new pads cost?
Most likely, no, the embedded debris (if that is the problem) would not come out on its own. It is most likely harder than the pad material, so it just keeps getting driven into the pad every time you brake.
Cost: I looked at Suncoast (a sponsor here), and they want $121 for front pads:

. If you do some searching, you can find referrals for other brands of pads.
Mine started after I brougth the car to the dealer to adjust the window to fully open. All I can think of that may have caused it is...when they washed the car, oil/dirt may have been deposited on the brake pads/rotors. The squeal is not bad, but still noticeable.
The only time that a squeal started on one of my cars was when a wrong type of pad was installed on my Benz. That squeal was really bad, so I had the pads replaced immediately.
Also you might need some grease between the brake pads and shim.
Im sure he has resolved the issue by now considering this thread is from 14 years ago!
