Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I am looking for some expert advice. Looking at a potential project 996 turbo and it has the following picture of an oil leak. Not much to go on I know but what would people think in their experience is the likely cause and how serious might it be to put right Thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

That's not an oil leak as such .. there is no fresh oil running or dripping down . It could be residue from the turbo intercooler pipe .. you do get oil in this which can leak out . Going with the worst possible .. its a turbo or turbo oil pipe and to be fair one of them looks pretty corroded .. Anyways worst possible is an engine drop to replace the turbo oil pipes .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks deMort That's really helpful much appreciated. Any idea what a ball park figure would be for and engine drop and new turbo if that was the issue? Thanks again

POST 4Original post

It's hard to tell. It could be something or nothing. Beware though, the turbos and pipe work can get expensive quickly. It's not just replacement components, but seized and corroded fasteners. This isn't the thread I was looking for, but it's illustrative: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=146162
