Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have an oil leak from the IMS/RMS area so need to address this and even though the clutch is fairly new, it's had a bit of oil pollution, so will probably get replaced too.
Leading evidence: 'Replace too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car is in with Precision at the moment. They have found that the bearing nearest the pinion has spun on the shaft, and some unexplained wear on the end of the pinion drive side face.
It is just visible in the photo below, but in person is most obvious to feel as the surface of the dull section is slightly uneven to touch/not as smooth as the remainder.
Has anyone had similar, or any experts care to speculate on a cause?

Good to meet DeMort while I was there, and thanks again to him for his support to three forums.
Is the issue not due to the bearing having spun? That implies that the bearing is worn and presumably isn't supporting the shaft adequately hence leading to the unusual wear as the gears are no longer meshing properly.
Pinion bearing wear is pretty well known on the earlier gearboxes, mine suffered from the same but was saved by a rebuild.
Gearbox expert's opinion: The bearing has definitely caused this. Pinion and wheel contact needs to be set very accurately and if the bearing goes or is not shimmed properly, poor tooth contact will lead to unexpected flank wear.
Yours doesn't look terrible yet so I would probably run it with a new bearing.
A job I have to tackle soon on a 120K C2.
I've had the faint whining noise from the gearbox for a couple of thousand miles now, so this winter is the time to do it before it gets too bad. I notice it, but others can't. It's easier to spot with the hard top on my cabrio.
It was most noticeable when coasting at around 50mph ish, but still there with the clutch depressed.
I've got a floor transmission jack for Christmas, so just need to get hold of tools and parts for whatever else I plan on doing when the gearbox is out and sent up to the rebuilder.
I have an oil leak from the IMS/RMS area so need to address this and even though the clutch is fairly new, it's had a bit of oil pollution, so will probably get replaced too. I also have a bit of weeping at the joint of the over the box brake pipe, so will replace this too.
Just waiting for the weather to perk up a bit!
