Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

48,000 miles seems like a very big mileage for plugs, things have certainly changed since the old days of Champion plugs being changed every 5 or 10,000 !!
Leading evidence: 'Replace every 5 or 10,000' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace every 5 or 10,000' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
Perfect example of this is the DFI engine and plugs seizing in it cos Porsche got the schedule of plug change wrong.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

...from what I understand plugs don't wear with age or time but miles driven consequently if a car isn't doing many miles each year they won't need changing for years thus changing them on time period alone is a complete waste of money and unnecessary in my opinion...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What is the scheduled mileage for a plug change?
Mine have now done about 15K since change of plugs and all coil packs.
No issues at all, just preventative maintenance concerns.
Don't want to do it unless necessary, not an easy job on your back on a cold concrete floor!

Perhaps the time based replacement recommendation is to avoid corrosion build up on the threads and to avoid the possibility of plugs seizing in the head.. :?:
I doubt it, it's just what the service frequency is timed at and that's based around oil and filter. Perfect example of this is the DFI engine and plugs seizing in it cos Porsche got the schedule of plug change wrong.
No argument from me on the why`s and wherefores of Porsches maintenance schedules..
Admittedly I have a "thing" when it comes to seized nut`s bolts etc.etc.making any task so much more complicated than it needs to be for the sake of a bit of preventative maintenance. As well as the possible issues (or not) with seized plugs, I seem to remember reading on here that on (later?) coil packs with some sort of insert that can cause the hold down fixings to sieze and break when trying to remove the coil packs so perhaps another reason to follow maintenance schedules to some degree...?
Types he who has two seized brake nipples one broken, and some exhaust fixings well past any possibility of unbolting
Depends on use. Like mpg, it varies dramatically on how the car is driven. Using mine daily for work I get around 20-24mpg. Using it on a long run on the motorway I get 32-34mpg. Same goes for sparks, if my average rpm going to work is 3600rpm and on a Motorway run is 2400rpm, then over the same mileage the urban drive has done 50% more sparks.
You could also add in to that wear variation between a hot plug and cold plug. I don't know the answer to that but there could be a huge difference, therefore short trips wear plugs out more than long over same distance.
One of the reasons I decided to change my out.
Probably done around 20k, I thinks that early as most other cars Ive had have been 60k before plugs needed done by the book.
