Could somebody please listen to this video and give me an idea on what it might be? The video was taken right at the passenger side intake. At the end of the video the ticking seems to go away but that was because I moved toward the back tire.
I'm not sure how long it's made this noise but I just became aware of it the other day. It makes the same noise with the engine cold and hot. An increase in throttle speeds up the ticking.
2006 Cayman S with 31,500 miles.
I've searched around here and on YouTube and found similar videos but the threads all seem to die before a resolution is found.
I'm fearing the worst.
The link doesn't work for me.
Even if it did chances are the noise would not be anything you can do something about.
You need to know where (exactly) the noise is coming from for this helps to know what the noise means.
If you want to do something remove the oil filter housing and dump the oil out along with the filter into a *clean* drain pan and see what you see.
My advice is to assume the worst and get the car flat bedded to a dealer and have an experienced tech listen/diagnose the noise.
The noise may be something rather benign but you need a professional to tell you that not me guessing.
And the more times you run the engine the higher the chances a serious but fixable problem turns into a catastrophic problem.
Thanks. I changed the link to the video.
I'm going today to get it checked out.
Sounds like mine. I asked the tech - he didn't hear anything unusual - the fuel injectors tick kinda loud.
How long have you had this car?
I also recorded some ticking after a cold start and sent it to my tech, he also said it was nothing to worry about.
Yep. I feel like an idiot. Consider it a lesson learned in not self-diagnosing over the internet.
I went in to the dealership and the service tech came out and I asked what the sound was and he said "all I hear are injectors."
Maybe some other worrier will stumble across this thread and be put at ease.
Sounds like an IC reciprocating

engine to me.
Has it turned off cool even cold where you are?
Sometimes noises appear out of the blue when the weather gets colder.
Noise is transmitted better when cars/engines are cold.
Keep an eye, make that an ear, on the the car and the engine but I have to offer up my opinion that I believe the tech who gave a listen is right.
Not sure if you are still following this, but I had the same thing happen today, and feel a lot better now
