Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone, 2005 Porsche Boxster base, 2.7l 104k miles, 6speed manual. Original IMS. I have recently noticed a faint rhythmic knocking from my engine in the last 1000 miles. Oil level is reading fine but it is also very due for an oil change (7000 miles). I have attached a video. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if it sounds like chain tensioner, IMS, or any other issue. Quick 20 second clip, have to listen closely to hear noise thanks! Rob

POST 2Original post

Sounds like a valve. However, in the 986 strange noises were common with loose spark plugs, some that mimicked this type of ticking.
