My
TPMS
display suddenly went blank a few days ago. No error code or ! showing up. Just -- in all four tire positions. The
TPMS sensors
are from
Tire Rack
, are less than a year old and worked fine until a few days ago. I went through the
TPMS
resest/learning again but it failed to get me pressure readings on any tire. I looked in the manual and searched
TPMS
threads but have not come across a solution to this problem. Anybody have an idea?
That is a strange one with all 4 going at once. Do you have a winter set of rims &
tires
that you can swap on (it's time anyway) and see what happens?
After doing a reset, it sometimes takes a few miles of driving before it picks up the pressures again.
Good luck!
As Pete said it can take several miles of driving for the system to relearn. As much as 1/2 hour in some cases. If that doesn't work then it is likely the
TPMS
module itself is going to need replacing. Is it giving you any warning chimes?
Did you perhaps use the lower left stalk to reset/relearn the tires? This is normal behavior if you tell the TPMS system that you have changed wheels and it goes into relearn mode. Just drive for a while, 10-20 miles, and it should re-find / re-learn the TPMS sensors in each wheel.
It's not going to be your wheel sensors causing the problem, as it would be
extremely
unlikely for all 4 of them to fail at the same time.
A less likely possibility is that a very strong radio transmission near your car (while running) overloaded the TPMS receiver circuits such that it could no longer "hear" the transmiters in each wheel. Again, just give it time to relearn.
If all is not well within 30 miles of driving, try forcing the TPMS system to relearn again by telling it you have changed wheels (see the owners manual). If that doesn't cause it to relearn, then see your dealer as the TPMS control unit may have failed.
Thanks for all of the replys. After several days of driving with no display and no warnings I did force it to re-learn the wheels. After the re-learning period I got the same blank display. However, this morning after about 15 minutes on the road all of the tire pressures are back. Hopefully this will not become a common occurance.
Good to hear that everything is back. The quirks of owning one of these cars I guess.
I had a problem where it said the
TPMS
was inopertive, Dealer checked it out and TMPS computer was not working and it was replaced under warranty. While researshing it he found a service bulliten on a faulty ground that was causing problems
Where was this service bulletin of a faulty ground referring to. Did they find and fix it?
I sort of think
@Boxsterbob
isn't too likely to respond. He was last seen here 8 years ago (December 20, 2013). You can find this info out by hovering over the users avatar - a brief summary of their info will pop-up (this is reading it in a computer browser - I'm not sure how it works on a phone browser) including the last time they visited Planet-9.
I suspect you'd get more satisfaction if you started a new thread, describing your problem, details on the year/model of your 987, and anything you've done to try to solve it so far. More info = better answers.
Meanwhile - welcome to Planet-9!
