Hi, Guys
Some time ago, I was looking over the internet a thread about how to flush the power steering fluid in a
997.1
and I couldn't find a treat on how to do it, some 987 thread mentioned about getting the fluid out through the steering fluid filling port but on 997 the fluid level is really low.... So, I fond a really good thread for a 993...
Power Steering Fluid Drain & Flush - ******** Discussion Forums
But our steering gear is hidden behind the cross member (997.1 model), so we start to looking around and found the entries hoses for the steering gear (on the driver side). There were two access ports to the hoses to work: one through the wheel and one from the bottom between the chassis and cross member (see picture for second access port).
Note: do not open the steering fluid tank cap for now.
Use a 8mm hex wrench to take the bold out and the small washer/bracket. You can use a carton board to make a canal to avoid get a mess with the draining fluid.
Pull the hoses very carefully..... each line has a oring that it is not on the parts manual, so you will need to reused them.
After Pulling the pressure line and return line, fluid came out but just a little..... So, was time time to open the steering fluid tank cap so, fluid can flow easily through the lines.
This is a picture from the driver side wheel.
After, draining all the fluid... you can put the key on the car (to unlook the steering) and move the steering from side to side to dry the steering gear.....
After that, Put fluid in the tank (it will runs slow)..... when you can see green clean fluid in the return line (the big one), reconnect that line to the steering gear and continue adding more steering fluid.
While after, you will see green fluid coming from the pressure port of the steering gear, move the wheels all around and wait to see more clean - green fluid coming up.
After get the return line and steering gear flush, It is time to reconnect the pressure line, put the washer/bracket (tension shackle) and re-install the bold.
Note: Try to dont top the fluid after reconnecting the lines, this can force you to get some fluid out of the tank..... even if you move the wheels from side to side fluid level wont move.
Turn the car for a few second them off for 2-3 times to get air off the system...
Turn on and moved for several time the steering from side to side. 5-10 times to get the air out (not fluid level in the tank wont move to much).
If you have fluid level way over, you will need to get some of the fluid out again.... and voila!!!! DONE
Make a short trip and recheck the connections for any leaking and any fluid refill.
Note: Sorry for the English guys... I tried my best to explain the process.
Please, dont forget to put your comments to complement this procedure.
See you...
