I think based on the feedback I will just get the curb rash repaired on the stock wheels, and get familiar with the car for a while before I change anything.
Leading evidence: 'Repair on the stock wheels, and get familiar' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best forged wheel' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). When I had my Z and was running 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 + 15, my options were limited and I ran Michelin PS2s.

It's a beautiful car but I was just curious what my options were on wheels to replace the factory severely curb rashed wheels that are a bit dated and small at 18".

A 19 wheel is almost always going to be heavier than an 18 one unless its a VERY high-end fully-forged 19, and running 19 wheels on cars designed around 18s forces you to run tires with substantially less sidewall meat, which is really where you lose your handling and makes the cars ride crashy and extra sensitive to imperfections in the road in the bad way, not the communicative I can feel everything the car is doing and control it way.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, my 98 year old dad finally decided he wanted me to take his baby, a 1999 911 Carerra 4. It's both sad and exciting at the same time. It's a beautiful car but I was just curious what my options were on wheels to replace the factory severely curb rashed wheels that are a bit dated and small at 18". I have seen the measurements of various wheels available that are say 1" bigger and wider and then there is the offset that I'm not sure if there is an acceptable range. For instance, there is a set of Carrera V wheels. 19x11 rear 19x8.5 front that are very nice looking on Craigslist.
first of all, am i making a mistake by changing wheel size to say a 19" from 18" or at all? Will the stock wheels have the best ride?
I found a site wheel-size.com that gives the specs as:

Any advice would be appreciated.
Most will agree 19s ruin the handling of these cars and a wider 19 wheel will be a pretty tricky fit on stock suspension, especially without listing the offsets.
There are a good amount of 18 options that change the look and offer a performance benefit. Apex makes some of my favorites and they have several options in tailored plug-and-play sizes for these cars. I also work for Apex, just for full disclosure, and theres a reason we dont make a 19 wheel for the 996.
I agree with the two above. 18s are the way and Apex is probably the best forged wheel for the money while still having a nice looking aesthetics as well as performance in the best sizes for our cars.
To be fair, I have 3 full sets of wheels and almost a full set of E88s all 18s.
I disagree on the comments "19" make the car handle bad"......I put 19" on my C4 and it actually handles better! It's a personal preference. 19" fill the wheel well much better without having to lower it. I love mine!
I wouldnt say its a personal preference so much as science, but whatev gets you by.
Makes sense, thanks. I think based on the feedback I will just get the curb rash repaired on the stock wheels, and get familiar with the car for a while before I change anything. Thank you all for your input.
Mike
Ive been approached by quite a few people but the mold process would almost guarantee itll get wrecked. Id be willing to have someone come and measure it out but its not leaving my house/car.
That makes a lot of sense. I wonder what Getty would need to pull that off. I know RPM Tek is gonna regret pulling it out of production when the popularity of these things really pick ups speed.
You know, the issue is theyre a high end shop and the 996 CSR was such a small part of what they do. I dont think theyll really miss it and very few people wanted to drop the $3k + for a ducktail. It took almost 7 months to get mine and the people who make it for RPM is OEM for European super cars so the CSR unit was last on their priority list. I even tried getting one of their exhausts and they eventually stopped responding to my emails.
I respectfully disagree with you. You loose feel with a larger side wall because of the flex in the tire itself. As for weight, these cars don't have enough power to weight ratio to feel the difference of a few lbs. from the wheels. It's so small you won't feel it. Now when I changed out to Roannah's on my 991 C2S the weight difference was big (almost 11 lbs. each in the rear and 7'ish lbs. for each in the front) you felt the difference. For these between the stock 18" vs stock 19" would be less then 3 lbs.....and you will NOT feel the difference. So actually it is personal preference.
I think the big thing about the 18 v 19 argument is the tire options. Our 18 set ups are kinda slim simply because of the sheer size of the tire, 19 are even slimmer. When I had my Z and was running 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 + 15, my options were limited and I ran Michelin PS2s.
I have the gold ML-10RTs in my cart (8.5F, 11R). Beautiful wheels.
I just purchased brand new Michelin PS4S tires. 225/40 & 295/30. Apex recommend 235/40. Any issue with sticking with the 225s? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Shouldnt be an issue for the fit, but it might not look ideal. Id recommend hitting up our Porsche fitment expert and running through your specs/suspension just to confirm. The email is below and youll get a quick turnaround.

If you are running them on a C4 or C4S just make sure your rotational percentage between front & rear is less then 3% or you WILL heat up the front differential and burn it out!
Great to hear! Please do DM some pics when theyre on. Ill also be running ML-10s (in brushed clear) on my C2, but not until I put coil-overs and some Tarett parts on.
It was on the car when I got it. From what I can tell, its a fixed Turbo knockoff. I didnt like it before I lowered w coilovers and got the wheels. Now I dont mind it. It all kinda came together.
Same wheel spec as the white car on their website, except Im not using a spacer. 18x9, 18x11. Conti ExtremeContact 235 front, 295 rear. They are a bit stretched in my opinion, but its what was recommended. The center caps came from one of the online Porsche dealers. If you google anthracite Porsche center caps I bet they come up. Not a perfect match, but damn close.
The white car on the site is actually running a 255/35r18 up front, which is a lot of tire for these. Theres also a bit of difference between how tires of the same sizes fit from manufacturer to manufacturer and hes running Michelin PS4s.
Thanks for sharing that info. I picked up the last set of 18x8.5s in Motorsport Gold. Running 235/40 PS4s. Wish there were easier options for Porsche center caps!
Im on Bilstein B8s w/H&R sport springs & F/R sway bars, plus Tarett end links. Sits nice, rides comfortably, but feels firm. Looking forward to the wheel/tire update
Do you think you didn't need the spacer because you're running 235 instead of 255? The 18x8.5 are back-ordered so I'm considering the 18x9, but that's a big step up from the 7.5" wheels from the factory.
I didnt notice that car was using a spacer, to be honest. But, I dont feel my car needs it. Im probably lowered a hair more than that car too, so theres that.
I love the APEX Motorsport Gold even more after putting them next to the Arctic Silver.
Are the Porsche center caps you used 76mm? Can you share the link you got yours from?
Thanks again!
You can always get a set of spacers which will improve the look substantially with your oem wheels. If you do this, you will also need to get longer lug nuts or convert to wheel studs. If you go thru Pelican, FCP or one of the other distributors, they can tell you what to get.
Thanks! I took a chance and decided to go with a non-factory option for my center caps. I got this set off Etsy and have been quite pleased. I dont have any factory caps aside from the original ones on my Carrera 18s to compare these to. But the colors and details of the Porsche crest are vibrant and beautiful. The overall quality of the product, I feel is elevated and polished. The back of the caps are stamped with Made in Italy. How long the Porsche crest keeps its appearance and the durability of the cap itself is unknown. But for now, Im happy with these and look forward to mounting them soon. Getting a paint correction and ceramic coat on my Carrera and will get the wheels mounted then. I may consider a clear coat on the caps to protect the finish. Here are a some quick photos
