Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Outcome without a verified action link

The LNE removal tool package did not fit this 10mm shaft so I had to weld up something and then that broke because the IMS shaft is no longer center on the hole so the tool did not work.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone tell me what IMS bearing assembly this is? The shaft is 10mm, the castellated nut is 17mm on the outside. The part number on the cover plate is K99602401 . The first letter is a scripted capitalized K (or KC, or KG, hard to tell). I am trying to decide if this is some thing that can be replaced without having to split the case. And what is its replacement.

POST 2Original post

What we know is that is definitely factory flange for a 6204 single row bearing. The nut and cotter pin are not. Leads one to think the bearing was changed out but reused the flange. The person went a little crazy the black silicone sealant too.

POST 3Original post

that was an IMS kit made by a guy name Robert Herst ( probably misspelled his last name) who has a Porsche Shop and promoted these and sold them on E-bay also I think... Uses an off-the- shelf roller bearing with the OEM housing and a Custom center bolt/nut with cotter pin and spacers if used on dual row cars... The bearing can be replaced for piece of mind ,with same just get the number off the old bearing...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, if I want to get a new bearing from LNE, which bearing should I buy? Not looking to save money or anything, just wanting something well branded.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 19974956

You will need to know if the Intermediate "Shaft" is a Dual Row or Single Row ( that "kit" will fit either with the appropriate spacers) , then order the correct LN Retrofit Kit or IMS Solution... You will need to pull that bearing and look at the "SHAFT" to order the correct LN Replacement...

Yep, the guy is Bob Hearst and still has a Facebook account, but his website "www.por-ims.com" was not renewed last year. He had a tendency to not play by the rules and why his account was banned here on Rennlist. He was also warned several times for doing the same on the IMS bearing Facebook group.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So what a ****-poor design this thing was. The LNE removal tool package did not fit this 10mm shaft so I had to weld up something and then that broke because the IMS shaft is no longer center on the hole so the tool did not work. I resorted to a blind hole bearing puller to get the bearing off. 1. It looks like a single row bearing 14mm thick. 2. @Porschetech3 , I released two of the three chain tensioners but the shaft is not centering itself, does it look like I have to release the last tensioner under AC compressor to make it loose enough to center the shaft?

POST 8Original post

Yes release the 3rd tensioner. Some say it doesnt need to be released but i had to on mine.

POST 9Original post

Yes something is pulling on the chains and has the shaft pulled up/over Like DeJeeper says the tensioners will pull on the chains/IMS and have it out of place...Also the valve springs can try to roll the cams and tighten the chains if they are not locked.. If the cams are locked you can also rotate the crank just a few degrees "counterclockwise" to loosen the chains and the IMS will drop down/over......

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll try the counter clock wise trick before I release the last chain tensioner as the cams are locked on bank 1.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All is well. Even releasing the third chain tensioner did not center the shaft. I had to back off the main crank a little bit to have it drop to center position. All is good.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 19987507

Good deal...Porsche actually has a special tool that screws onto the stud and has an arm that fits against the block and a Turn-buckle that can "force" the IMS against the tensioners or chain tension to center the shaft for reinstalling the IMS cover..... but I hate to even use it...I much much rather have the shaft centered so it will just "slide into place" ...
