Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had my local specialist (who seem good and on the ball) give my 996 a once over. One of the things that they recommended was new coffin arms and top mounts on the front. Before it went in, the suspension was a bit noisy over bumpy roads, perhaps a bit tired, but not terrible. Car now drives better, unfortunately it has picked up that "creaky ship" / "squeaky floor board" noise only the driver's side front, generally when stopping hard at a junction or going slowly over a speed bump. Not what I had hoped for. I took a look under the car and noticed a piece of under body plastic, apparently an air duct (part 996 504 604 00) was hanging quite loose, not screwed in. I pulled it free hoping I'd discovered the noise (maybe it had been dragging or rubbing) but sadly this wasn't the culprit. It is booked in for them to have a look at this week but I'm curious as to how a new arm is making this noise already? It could be something else of course. Obviously it's hard to diagnose something over a forum, but I'd welcome any speculation.

POST 2Original post

The newer coffin arms can cause a noise on the inner bolts / arm plate .. These are basically coffin arms from a new model car that Porsche have decided will fit all ... original type is no longer available and they are more expensive .. they also look very flimsy to be honest to the point i actually queried that these are correct the first time i had to fit them . Jacking up the suspension that side before fully tightening the bolts can help .. kinda standard practise there as that's how they should be fitted or a small amount of ally grease on the contact plate surfaces ... i'm not a fan of this though . Top strut mounts don't tend to cause a noise when new .. when old then its a knock .

POST 3Original post

Could it be the tuning forks also needed doing - I've read they can be noisy but show no sign of wear.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you both for the input. I've messed around a bit with iMovie (what a confusing thing that is) and have hopefully uploaded a recording to YouTube: https://youtu.be/f5HonoMFRKk Hopefully it's clear. If anyone gets time to cast an ear over it and give some thoughts, that'd be amazing.
