I'm quite staggered by the photos of many adverts where the selling dealer can't be bothered to make an effort to clean the interior.

Took a bit of acclimatisation on the test drive after driving a Gr Yaris for the past two years!

The cars performance was so accessible I had to recalibrate my brain back to ‘normal aspiration’ mode when I test drove the gt4.

the GT4 looks/act/sits way different indeed, the long gears you read a lot about, also that some have changed that, to use the gearbox more and get more go from it, more playful, but that does not come cheap I thought.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Evening all. I’m on the lookout for a interesting colour GT4 (sub £70k with leather dash) and interested in the car below:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202307270...
Rang the dealer all sounded good and above board but my wife noticed the badge spacing on the rear is completely wrong.
Are you able to specify Caymans from new with the Porsche lettering deleted? Or is possible evidence of a poor repair?
I was going to go view the car with a view to buying but it’s put me off.
Not stock, the badge has been off and put back on completely incorrectly.
It could be as simple as they removed a wrap from the car, it's unlikely they'd be removing PPF. If not that, then a bumper respray.

It might be that it had or has PPF and someone hasn't done the best spacing job on fixing the logo back.....or it was this owners

Admittedly 10% more than your budget but…
https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/porsche-sales/vehicle/981...
Yellow
Buckets
Leather dash
Low mileage
….all for only 10% more. A far better proposition long term in my opinion by comparison to the others, well certainly that first one you were looking at.

Ticks all your boxes but not a dealership sale. Considering it has full Porsche ongoing Warranty and service history why pay dealer rates?

The way a car is presented for sale tells me a lot about the way the car has been looked after!!
Or it could tell you that it has immaculate history been cared for like a child, yet the photos were taken by someone with dirty shoes and not much time on their hands.
I’ve bought from that dealer. Car was and is fine. IMHO they are the car supermarket for higher end cars. Some very high end.
That business model doesn’t support detailed preparation.
It doesn’t mean the car is a lemon though.

Sounds daft but I don’t think I could spend that on a car without some dealership back up should it be a crapper

How was your car when you collected it? Was it prepared nicely etc?
I bought my 981 2.7 from there. When I collected it had been fully valeted and was as clean as a whistle. They also offer a full prep with additional ceramic coating service for about £1k from memory.
I had a really good experience with them and can highly recommend, as another poster has pointed out they are more of a car supermarket for higher end stuff. My car was parked next to a Huracan and behind an SF90.
Here's an image of the car as i collected to give you an idea of prep.

It wasn't prepped at all as far as I could tell. They hadn't even washed it.

I'm quite staggered by the photos of many adverts where the selling dealer can't be bothered to make an effort to clean the interior. Some even take close up photos of dust, dirt and greasy finger prints. FFS where's the pride in your service, the couldn't give a s

Exactly, even some cars I have seen in official stealers I wouldn’t touch! Six months ago I saw a 718 Spyder in an OPC showroom that looked like it had been off road with the amount of crap in the wheel arches!
They are selling a £60k Porsche not a £6k fiesta even then I would expect the car to presented clean.
Gave the dealer a call on this one
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202307079...
Salesman didn’t seem very enthusiastic and the car hadn’t been serviced since early 2020. Not a deal breaker but the prices are so near to 718 gt4’s it almost seems daft not to look at them too…
The RPM teknic cars look overpriced to my eyes in this market (although very good condition).
The search goes on!

They may well be, but in my limited experience of them, there is good reason for it.
If you're close, to have them nearby would be really useful. Superb outfit.
I bought from them, but am not close

I think if i was after a Cayman in a bold colour I'd be getting this Cayman R and keeping £22k in the bank.

Thanks for everyone’s help. I’ve just put a deposit on a 718 GT4 with leather dash, 918 buckets in a Gentian Blue!
Literally can’t wait to pick it up in a couple of weeks!

Can I be rude please and ask how much movement there was in price? I'm considering 718 or 981 Spyder and GT4 at the moment and curious to know if OPCs are sticking to their prices or if discounts can actually be had.
Congrats on the car - I had a manual 718 GT4 for a while and it was a fabulous car. Incredible machines on track.

I didn’t haggle to be honest. It came up on Autotrader at a well known supercar dealer In Knaresborough for £74,995.
Went to view it fell in love and put a deposit down. Leather dash/doors, buckets with yellow contrast stitching, gold wheels. Looks jizz
Rang up about the python green pdk at another very popular midlands dealer. Salesman was so rude he put me off buying the car
On another note I’d be very wary of spending over £80k on anything less than almost new in this market. I’ve noticed some cars sat for months.

Thanks - 75k seems very good value to me so no need to haggle on that!
And no - I’ll be waiting a wee while before I do anything. I sold my 2020 car for 92k last year so things have moved quite a bit already.

I think I can understand that coming from the GRY, bet the seating position and steering and pedals, a compleet different position when coming directly out the GRY.
I bet it takes some getting used to that after such time, I wonder then what your experiences will be compared to the GRY , after a few weeks driving time in the GT4, and then back in the GRY from high to low to high seating and different way/feel to the things you touch with your feet/hands.
Yep, damn your eyes OP because now I want another 718 GT4. They're actually in danger of bumping into 981 GT4 prices at this rate. Nearly 80 for sale on Autotrader and PDK cars now under 80 grand. Quite a different landscape from just over a year ago.

2 owners from new, 14k miles and 2020 plate.
I never really considered the 718 as it was waaay above 981 prices/my budget.
But this and a few other decent spec ones have come up recently and it’s a buyers market.
The dealers asking over 90-100k are in for some heavy losses IMO.

I absolutely loved my GR and did lots of fun drives, commuting, track days in the 2 years I had it.
The cars performance was so accessible I had to recalibrate my brain back to ‘normal aspiration’ mode when I test drove the gt4. The Yaris is just so eager and the gears are tightly stacked compared to the cayman. Great view of the road being sat high up too when pressing on.
But I know il get used to winding out the revs in the gt4 and can’t wait for a new challenge!

I can believe such GRY is a 'easy' car to drive fast, it's power is very useble, its maybe like a 205 1.9 GTI in those days, you can go max attack so to speak, without going crazy speeds and felt good/fast (when you were young lol)
the GT4 looks/act/sits way different indeed, the long gears you read a lot about, also that some have changed that, to use the gearbox more and get more go from it, more playful, but that does not come cheap I thought.
On my car the end gear/diff is the long one, in second as high as the GT4 I guess, it has an extra gear as well, 6 (also from a M3 e9x) instead of normal 5... I can reach 240km/h in 4th if I want, but still it feels good, because way lighter then a M3 e9x and a bit more power, but ideally instead of now my 3.15 end diff gear, I should go for 3.73 or 3.91 then the 5 and 6 gear would be more used and you could still reach say 300 were it is aloud, but the car would feel at least 20% quicker, not that the car needs it, but say if I really wanted that, but that's for the next owner, no engine tuning needed, if you want more and more active, go the gears way, a bit less theoretical top speed, but more usable fun.

The manuals will always command a premium over time when the novelty of the PDK box wears off. PDK is brilliant for track work, but the manual with auto blip downshift is just sensational and so much more fun on the road (assuming you want to keep your licence..).
And spec is everything on these (buckets are mandatory)…Just imo of course

Personally I believe the 891s will hold the value much better (for the age) over the latest gen. Aside from looks they are just more organic and fun IMHO.
Though I’d give an update on GT4 life. It be done 4,000 miles in the last 6 months. A variety of work, leisure drives round the peaks and moors and even a sprint. A couple of upcoming track days booked at Donington and Anglesey - it’s a great car! (Still miss the GR Yaris a bit though..)
