Hi All –
I just recently purchased a 07
911 coupe
. The sticker suggests that the vehicle should get 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. I know these are usually just guidelines and a lot of variables can contribute to the actual fuel economy observed. But under normal driving conditions (mostly obeying the speed limits) I seem to be averaging 16.5 mpg city and about 20 mpg highway. Seems a bit low based to my experience with other cars comparing sticker mpg to actual mpg. I’m just wondering what others are experiencing under “normal” driving conditions.
First, congratulations on your purchase. Happy motoring!
As for the fuel consumption, it could be several issues. Start with the very simple, i.e. check tire pressures to make sure they're at the recommended level, maybe think of adding some fuel system cleaner, or even octane booster, to see if that makes a difference.
I take it the car feels as if it's running OK? No other obvious performance issues?
Just some brief suggestions to start with, please keep us updated.

I normally reset the MPG indicator every time I refill in order to get a more accurate reading of my mileage for that tank.
If you never reset the indicator, the results will be skewed. You can also calculate the mileage manually by tracking the miles and the number of gallons needed to fill the tank. This number should match the trip computer number if you had it reset with the last fill up.
If you find a large discrepancy between the numbers, we can troubleshoot further.
I've been able to match and sometimes exceed the sticker mileage numbers on my
Cayman S
for city & highway consistently for the last 3 years using this method.
Thanks for the tips. The car runs great as far as I can tell. She was a one owner (assuming lease return) CPO from a local dealer. Everything seems to be in good working order, except I noticed the fuel consumption just seemed to be a little off. No big deal – just being inquisitive. We are still getting acquainted.
The fuel system cleaner and fuel additive is a good idea. I’ll also reset the MPG counter with each fill up. I think she could use a good long highway run too.
I normally avg ~16 mpg city (~18 when I'm careful on the throttle) and ~25 highway in my '08 C2S. My wife's '08 C2 base did ~23 mpg all the way from Texas to CA in mixed city/highway.

Ditto to Pete's suggestion. Rest the trip odometer at each re-fill. At the
next
, divide total trip miles shown by gallons to fill, which will yield true mpg, fill to fill.
Example: my
Cayman
read 23.1 avg mpg. My driving the last week was mixed with an approx. 150 mile avg. speed ~50 mph visit to family. On fill yesterday, the true, calculated mpg was 26.8 urban mixed versus the vehicle's display.
I have an 08 S Cab and I get about 22-23 highway driving real nice and usually 18-19.5mpg on a fill up in mixed driving. I got slightly better in my two
Cayman S
(24-26mpg highway, and 19-21 mpg mixed) and even better in my E46
M3
even though that was a car I paid a gas guzzler tax on.
There are several things that can effect your mileage. A big one is how much ethanol is in the gas .. more ethanol less mpg's. Also, never ever believe one of those computer based mpg indicators, always calculate total miles vs gallons to fill manually. Make sure you fill to a consistent level, I always fill to the bottom of the flapper in the fill pipe.
How fast you drive on the highway and your gear selections also make a large difference in mpg's.
Good luck!

hi, I was getting up to 30 mpg with my 07
Carrera
S, average around 25 mpg.. but I did drive it sensibly most of the time :hilarious:
