Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have had a car with wireless car play for two weeks and in that time have used it more than I have used wired in several years!

I really wasn't using the PCM2.1 as it was so clunky to use.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My gen2 C2 has the basic install of the Becker radio with frunk located remote amp and multichanger. I had been considering the Porsche branded PCCM+ but reading the thread on lack of support from Porsche for software bugs (and the fact its vastly overpriced) I have been looking elsewhere. I've seen a couple of reviews of the Pioneer AVH-Z3200DAB which seems to have all my requirements. Has anybody fitted one of these to a 996? I'm looking for any fitting \ compatibility wiring wise issues.
cheers
Alan
Depends if you want something that looks like it comes from the same period as the 996, or you are happy with a modern looking unit.
Classic looking head units are available from either Continental or Blaupunkt, others may be available but I'm not aware of them.
If you've not got Bose then all these installations are pretty simple - I put a Kenwood in, but there isn't much difference between brands.
The biggest issue with any double-DIN install is you need to modify the cage to remove the internal divider and trim off some of the plastic. It's not a massive deal (a few minutes with a Dremel) but it does make it a rather one-way street as you can't easily go back to stock. You will also get the purists who don't like the look of after-market systems which might be an issue at resale time. But for me, installing modern audio & satnav was a no-brainer and makes the car hugely more usable day-to-day.
If I may make a suggestion - wireless Carplay/Android Auto makes a huge difference to usability as you can just leave your phone in your pocket. It sounds like a small thing to plug in your phone at the start of the journey, and it probably is, but it does make it surprisingly much easier just to get in and not have to faff about.
I went through the same thought process after testing out the original PCM and aftermarket bluetooth Alpine units. I would have loved the Porsche PCM+ but at that price I feel it is very over-priced.
I narrowed it down to Pioneer's AVH-Z32000DAB and the AVH-Z5200DAB, and opted for the former with a Pioneer reversing camera (the difference is that the former is wired apple car play vs wireless connection for apple car play).
Yes, the Pioneer's lack the OEM look, but I don't find it offensive in anyway, and think it is a very good unit which represents good value for money (not something I could say for the several other similar units I checked out).
I fit an Xtrons unit for £150. It does far more than any of the usual more expensive stuff and I can't fault it. I have Dab, Waze, OBD monitoring, Bluetooth, Pornhub, the list is endless.
Something like this (edited link that works):

Alex the eBay link doesn't seem to work, any chance you could try again? I'm keen to see it.
I'm also in the 'PCCM+ looks ace but Jesus is it overpriced considering the issues folk are having with it' camp
I just had a Kenwood DMX-5020 fitted to my 997.1 and it makes such a difference. I really wasn't using the PCM2.1 as it was so clunky to use. Great to have DAB and decent hands free phone options and the old unit can always go back in.
I really like the look of the Continental in the 996 and like the simplicity of it and the built in phone mic is good but if you want a screen or a modern looking narrow unit, I would go for something with wireless car play. I have had a car with wireless car play for two weeks and in that time have used it more than I have used wired in several years!
I had mine system replaced recently, had a Pioneer SPH-DA250DAB, new Hertz speakers all round and a Audison 8.9bit amp, sounds fantastic.
Can definitely recommend Tim @

Legend, much appreciated. I think that will do the job nicely.
Next step is to attempt to figure out the minefield of booking it up to an optical Bose setup
I put an F900BT, Alpine speakers and a JBL twin 8" sub box.
The HU is a getting on a bit now, and really only misses out on DAB and BT streaming.
I'm toying with going back to a single DIN, as the phone does pretty much everything now.
I'd just need an extra cubby hole.
The speakers and subs still sound epic tbh
