The warranty itself is good value, and was a good bit cheaper than a comparative third party warranty when I checked last year, the issue the OPC charging double compared to an indi any time they have to look at the car.

To reduce costs I am going to do the PDK service this month @circa £750 (just to change the transmission fluid).

I recently got my first Porsche, a 981 Cayman GTS, I'm considering whether it's worth paying OPC tax on servicing to get the approved warranty or if it's better to save money by using an independent.

Good info in that thread, seems like you can use an Indy with the extended warranty, but you're reducing your cover for anything that is broken as a result of their work.

Also does using Porsche for everything include tyres to maintain warranty?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently got my first Porsche, a 981 Cayman GTS, I'm considering whether it's worth paying OPC tax on servicing to get the approved warranty or if it's better to save money by using an independent. The main concern is the gearbox (it's PDK) which is fine now, but I'm aware they're eye watering if they go.
Any experiences with them? Also does using Porsche for everything include tyres to maintain warranty?
You do not need to use Porsche to supply and fit your tyres. For the 911 I was quoted £520 by OPC for a rear when the right price on the day was £305, not nice to be taken for a mug like that frankly.
N-marked ? Some members have said recently that it's no longer a requirement, but I've yet to see it explicitly stated by Porsche GB.
Are warranties worth it? It's an insurance policy, you pay a smaller amount annually to avoid picking up a large bill which may or may not come. There's no right answer imo, it depends on what degree of risk you are happy to accept and ability to pay if a large bill does come along.
PDK aren't especially problematic. I've never actually met anyone who's had an issue, but plenty who have worn out clutches in manuals etc (which being a wear item aren't covered).
See also the thread a couple down from here from the guy whose 4.0 GTS engine went pop. Whilst this may be a rare occurrence, the potential costs associated with a Porsche could be eye watering.
Reading threads like that lead me to think i'd go for the OPC warranty.

Yeah it's things like that which put me off frankly. N rated I can live with as they're similar price to non-N rated anyway.
I think the warranty is very good value for money personally given the quality of the policy. I guess it depends on how an independent prices things but parts are expensive and you don’t need much to go wrong even with an independent’s labour rates to break even…plus you’re guaranteed a loan car if you take the roadside assistance.

Well I have ~80 days to mull it over anyway as you can't cover for the first 90 days anyway.

The warranty feels good value, it's the OPC servicing which doesn't.

Get the warranty. I purchased my first Porsche last year and was wondering whether to save on servicing by going to an independent. I spoke to a few Indies and the advice was stay with Porsche as long as you have the warranty.
You will more than get you money back with issues that will crop up. You mention PDK (not sure how old yours is). There are other issues that can pop up so it is worth the piece of mind. I phoned around to see if there are cheaper warranties out there for the coverage (after my current 2 year expires). Absolutely nothing comes close to Porsche warranty so it is worth the upfront cost.

My personal experience with the OPC I use is that they’re very thorough and the customer service is very good. Yes servicing is expensive but my cars do a lot of miles and fairly regularly things come up on service when the car is in…which just get done under warranty. My Cayenne failed its MOT recently due to low brake pads (I now know that the inner brake pads which wear quickest don’t have sensors built in!)…rang the OPC, they took the car in the next day. Sometimes things that aren’t covered they will cover on a goodwill basis…but I do have three cars serviced with them two of which do 40k miles a year between them. So I am not unknown to them….

Not everyone will get back more than they pay in. If they did, the underwriter would quickly withdraw.

My 981 GT4 came with 2 years warranty in '21, I renewed it last year, mainly as it's a strong selling point on these cars when I eventually decide to part with it.
That said, i've yet to use it, and the servicing prices at Porsche are a total piss take, had a local Indy look after my previous 996 at a fraction of the price.
The roadside assist is very comprehensive (at an additional fee) but offers serious piece of mind if you're doing a hefty road trip (as I did in '22), but again, i've yet to use it.

You raise an interesting point.
I bought my Porsche in October 2023. The 12yr service and the PDK service is due next year (next year is YR13 of the age of the car but but due to Covid they skipped a year of service so on the service schedule 2025 will be YR12).
To reduce costs I am going to do the PDK service this month @circa £750 (just to change the transmission fluid). Next year is the biggest service due which the OPC are quoting me nearly 2K. Where it gets interesting is that service is not due till June 2025. The current warranty will run out in early October 2025. So I am debating whether it is worth the savings to go to an Indi for the main service next year knowing I have only 3 months of warranty left. I will be saving myself a ton but also will not be able to extend the warranty as the service is outside of the OPC network.

Mine is a late 2014 car, so getting close to some of the biggies like PDK service. Next service is a cheap one I think, so there's that - could be worth getting that done and warranty at Porsche then re-evaluate when the PDK service comes up in a couple of years. Currently it has a full OPC history so getting it warrantied should be OK I think.
