Chris Harris' PERFECT 911
Very R-Gruppe. Not over the top in terms of specs, but judging by the way that tail comes out, you need to be a very good and experienced 911 pilot. Suits Harris very well. Nice video. Thanks!
Video isn't showing up for me... hmmm wonder if I need to reboot or something...
Yep rebooted and now I can see it. Interesting custom 911, wonder how much he spent on it? I keep thinking "Neat, but why?" I guess because he could... and that's probably reason enough...
Classic looks with more power and improved handling.
It's nothing new and there are so many Mk1 and Mk2 Golfs (Rabbits) running the 1.8T engine from the Mk4's and A3's, for the classic look with great performance and a much lighter car to start with.
Not soemthing I would do, but I can see why one would.
Oh my Ken, you want to know how much he spent???? That's just a totally bad idea. No, no, no........
Well I see this as an act of pure indulgence. He's got lots of $$$ and wants to throw them at a car he likes but turn it into something more than what it is/was. That's not typically "my" choice of what to do with an older car, but I know some people do it. Some people do it because they take the result and enter it into some sort of classic car race, or some sort of car show circuit etc. Others do what Chris did and that was as a self-indulgence / pleasure thing for themselves. If he had done this to some sort of special older 911 then I'd think he'd perhaps ruined the originality of an older car, but it looks like he took a regular old 911 and made it more special which while it still probably takes away from the "classic"-ness of the car, it wasn't like taking a 73 RS and pimping it out or something. different strokes for different folks
I agree Ken. I wouldn't take an original 911 in good running condition and cobble it into a 73 RS replicar. However, there's a whole industry built on re-creatining 73 2.7 RS and 70 S-T 911s. As you know that's what the R-Gruppe is all about. I'm sure you saw that Excellence article on the Singer 911, a $250K (or more) 73 2.7 replicar based on a 3.2L Carrera chasis w/ a carbon fiber body. Personally I thought it was a rather expensive hodge podge that didn't really come off all that well. The money sunk into these cars is often new Turbo or even Ferrari territory, but for a lot of baby boomer 911 enthusiasts the 73 RS is the perrenial "must have".
