Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Try checking fuses D8 and D9 - one's for the radio, and the other is for the amp.

If so, check that the sound setting isn't on 'Mute' just in case.

Suggestion
Use the Becker OEM product to remove the Porsche mark up...they wouldn't notice if they were Porsche or not (they only have a very small logo that wouldn't be spotted...otherwise, they are identical).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys,
Came out to my 2003 996 TT today and have absolutely no sound from the cd player (cdr22?). It all lights up and accepts/ejects a cd but there is absolutly no sound from the cd or the radio element!!
Any pointers??
Only thing I can link it to was last night I went over a few bumps (roads round here are crap!) and it made the cd jump a bit...but it was working when I switched the car off!!
Can't use the search facility as Im unfortunately on here via my phone!!
Cheers.........
Mine does this once in a blue moon (well, it's happened 3 times since I've had the car).
Very, very annoying. I think it's a problem with the amplifier. I find mine goes away immediately when I restart the car (after locking/unlocking).
I doubt something has come lose, because the connectors are solid enough.
I suspect yours will start working again shortly, but maybe look around for a 2nd hand amp (very easy to swap out, just make sure you get the right one).
I must admit, I don't find these Becker products very good. My CDC-4 is quite temperamental and the CDC-3 on my Boxster got jammed and had to be replaced. The CDR-22 was also a little problematic and I find the CDR-23 sometimes isn't very responsive (ie. the right knob stops controlling the CD player) and occasionally when the CD has finished, I get CD --, rather than CD 01 (ie. going back to the beginning).
One of the weak parts of the 996 I'd suggest.
Thanks for the prompt reply GD
I must admit I didnt restart the car but did sit in the work car park scratching my head and turned the unit off and on again!! As said earlier all works but no sound!! Has to be amp or unit related!!
Any idea of cost of replacement unit or amps anyone?
Mine has the Bose upgrade without satnav so I'm assuming its a CDR22 from my time on this forum.
Thanks Maxie, I dont have any PCM unforntunately. Just the radio and climate controls on mine!
Have been through the entire damn radio and nothing worked! Will go and try again at lunchtime!
Thank for the replies chaps but the problem is now fixed!!
And guess what I did.......absolutely nothing!! got in car at lunchtime and its now working!!
And I thought my old Cosworth was temperamental!!
I wish my december warranty renewal was as easy to resolve!!
Cheers anyway!
That's exactly how my problem manifests itself!
All seems to be fine, except no noise. You try powering on/off, changing volume, skipping tracks, changing to radio etc, etc...and nothing!
I'd look out for a replacement on eBay, as they are very expensive from Porsche. Use the Becker OEM product to remove the Porsche mark up...they wouldn't notice if they were Porsche or not (they only have a very small logo that wouldn't be spotted...otherwise, they are identical).
it's a CDR23 (MOST) stystem, same as mine and it does exactly the same fairly requently. Ign on and off sorts it out. Must be some sort of crash at start up.
Apart from that tho' I think the MOST Bose set up sounds really good.
