Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, following on from the fuel economy thread could you answer a few basic questions on the 996 TT for me please? Ive a facelift 996 C2 and thinking of moving up. Bit of a pot-pourri Im afraid but all part of doing my homework. 1. Do Oettle etc do replacement silencers for the Turbo? I fitted a pair to my car and just love the noise. Best mod Ive done on the car and couldnt bear to go quiet again. total bargain for just over £300. dont facny spending mega bucks for a switch that Ill never use. 2. Is there likely to be a significant insurance hike? Im 37 full no claims etc. Not expecting a big uplift. 3. Warranties. Paid £900 for the C2. What's the position with the TT? 4. 4wd point. Do you lose much front boot space? 5. Do the pre-facelift cars have the electric boot release as standard? 6. The front lip spoiler looks very low. How is it in the real world? I fitted a Cup spoiler to my C2 and very happy with it but it just catches the odd time in mulit storeys etc Well thats enough for now! Thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

Hi 1. I'm sure replacement silencers are avail, as is a whole range of exhaust options to suit most budgets... 2. Insurance is very area / claims history dependent... no one can really answer that for you... call around and get some quotes. The turbo was much cheaper for me than any M-car for instance. 3. New wtee £1350 if being renewed.... personally I think its worth every penny, even with the latest hike... tho it depends on the hurdles to get the cover... if they want you do to £5k's work to get the wtee then clearly you need to reconsider ! 4. Compared to a carerra 2 yes you lose considerable front boot space, both in depth and length. 5. There never was a "facelift per say" a 2000 turbo looks the same externally as a 2005 turbo.... iMY02 saw various enhancements such as glovebox, higher qual materials etc, but nothing from an external visual perspective, and MY03 saw introduction of PCM2. Not sure bout the boot release pre-02. Someone on the board will be able to advise tho. 6. All i can say re the front lip spoiler is that with either aerokit and/or x73 suspension its Low and you will scrape it. I see it as a consumable tho and at circa £130 its not expensive to replace. Any other Q's just shout

POST 3Original post

well ZeroH replied to most of the questions, regarding the 2000 turbo boot opening : I have a 2001 registered, december 2000 built turbo and it does indeed have the electric boot opener - indeed, a quick glance at my manual, it does come as a standard. Cheers

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Related question gentlemen. My current steed is a 2002 facelift 996. What would you say is a fair price for the following car and p/ex? Sold by an independent non-specialist dealer. My car:- 2002 facelift 996 C2. 68k, seal grey, Porsche Red interior, good spec car in very good condition. Target car:- 2001 pre-facelift 996 TT. 43k, silver, very dark blue interior, average spec car in very good condition. Asking £35k though doubtless haggleable. All subjective I know but what would you be reckoning a likely cash balance would be trading one for the other? Or should I wait, banking on TTs falling quicker than Carreras and the gap closing?

POST 7Original post

Porsche red interior ! That may make it a bit sticky to sell.... but as they say, it only takes 1 person to like it !! I wouldnt bet on TT pricing being softer than C2 pricing. Best thing to do is get indicative pricing from indy's, pay for a book value from glasses (not sure if they cover porsche tho), and look around for the closest comps on atrader/pheads/top marques etc. You can assume the trader selling has room to haggle given the current market of course but be realistic based on the comps you see.
