I'll see if the clutch lines can be done at the same time also and check about the abs...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Currently have dot 4 brake fluid and want to replace it with SRF, i've been told by some indy's that I'll need 2 litres of SRF as the dot4 will need to be flushed throhg with SRF, but I've also been told by another indy that I can get away with just half a litre of SRF to replace the dot4 as the machine will drain all the old fluid away, so it doesnt need flushing. I;m confused :? and given the cost of SRF, 2litres v 1/2 a litre adds up ! Firstly, whats the brake fluid capacity (1/2 litre / 1 litre ?), and secondly, does dot4 need to be flushed with SRF ? Thx

POST 2Original post

Re: Castrol SRF - To flush or not to flush, that is the ques Use Motul RBF600 and buy 1.5 litres of the stuff, 95% as good as SRF but considerably less cost.

POST 3Original post

Re: Castrol SRF - To flush or not to flush, that is the ques I'll ditto that one. It's what I use and my brakes have never let me down even after 4 consecutive laps of the ring and any other track work I've done..... however to answer the question. To properly flush it all you will want min 1 litre. If you do it with only 1/2 litre then you won't have given it a good flush, it will still be a bit mixed..... This is from my own experience of bleeding them myself and watching it come through properly clean. Note also that the clutch is on the brake master cylinder so to properly flush it you should do the clutch line as well. Might I tell you that that's nearly impossible..... however given that line of the system doesn't see the work of the brakes it's not the end of the world if you leave it. You should change it however as the old fluid will eventually rust out components..... Cheers, Jeff

POST 4Original post

Don't forget the ABS needs flushing as well which needs the car to be hooked up to the computer so the can invoke it. Make sure the Indy you're using is capable....

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the answers here guys, i'll be asking my local opc to do the brake change tho i have to supply the srf myself... effectively just paying for the stamp  I'll see if the clutch lines can be done at the same time also and check about the abs... thanks again

POST 6Original post

It's a good idea mate. If you are a haggler you can ask them to match the indi price. Worked for me.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - my local indy - JZM, are actually as expensive as OPC for a brake fluid change East London OPC are adamant that as a fixed menu item they can't move on the pricing.... maybe I need to improve my haggling skillls !

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I've spoken to OPC EL who advise that included in their brake fluid change they do flush the clutch and the ABS. As its a stamp in the book I'll go OPC.. they have my car in for some wtee work at present anyway (seperate thread !)
