I did the job without removing the Alternator or throttle body, if you have a 1/4 in ratchet, use a 12 inch long extension and magnetic 10 mm socket which you can get on Amazon.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My oil filler tube seems to have cracked. I got a CEL for P0507 Idle Control System RPM Higher than Expected. I see some tell tale signs of oil around the accordion section of filler tube and surrounding areas. I was going to do it myself, but this seems like more trouble that its worth (remove airbox, throttle body, plenum, alternator). I'm pretty sure I'll probably break some brittle plastic part and will take longer than expected...not to mention I hated removing the alternator before. Local indy quoting ~$100 for the part and 2 hours labor. 2 hours seems a bit much, but overall sounds reasonable?

I did the job without removing the Alternator or throttle body, if you have a 1/4 in ratchet, use a 12 inch long extension and magnetic 10 mm socket which you can get on Amazon. remember the fragile AOS coolant union has a tendency to break if you even look at it, pick up a aluminum one from URO or Fab one to work in place. I see JohnCA58 says you can do it yourself and it's true, but I had my indy do it and it was 2 hours of labor so not unreasonable. However, I had him replace the stock filer with one that will never break This is the website where you can buy it: https://9ii.pro/ or here as a link: 9ii

POST 4Original post

I have also replaced a couple of fill tubes without removal of plenum or alternator. Removing the TB is simple and worth the 3 minutes it takes. The alternator has to be unbolted and moved over slightly to have easy access, but that's easier than alternator removal.

Sweet, I'll give it a go. You can never have enough 10mm sockets.

Thank you, just ordered. The original lasted 23 years, but you never know with plastic pieces and I'd be super annoyed if it happened again.

POST 7Original post

Its easy, like others have said. Just move alternator over and you don't need to remove anything else.

POST 8Original post

Also buy this https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...kaAidwEALw_wcB There is a good chance u will break the plastic one as soon as u poke around the alt. Other then that its a simple repair.

The URO part broke on me because 1) I didn't have it aligned properly when I went to bolt it in and 2) its sintered aluminum so it broke rather than bend. The Rausch and Spiegel part is a better design that won't break no matter what you do: Porsche Connection Piece for Water Hose to Oil Separator Rauch & Spiegel 516.252.B 996 106 226 52 516252B 516 252 B 99610622652 996-106-226-52 996.106.226.52 516-252-B | Pelican Parts It does cost more.

I had the same thing happen to me. I used it as-is until I received a replacement. Luckily you can purchase at least three ros from RoCKAuto for the price of the Rauch und Spiegel.

I did ask me how in know!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wasn't going to buy the join because it didn't break before. Now you guys got me nervous, purchased the Rausch and Spiegel.

POST 14Original post

Myself and since your in the Bay Area mild weather, I eliminated the coolant supply to the AOS with plugs, I have 2 Rausch and Spiegel union fittings somewhere in the garage from both cars.
