Hi Guys,
I am thinking of buying a Gen 2 carrera 340bhp
Manual
Carrera white - Black Side stripe
18 inch Carrera IV wheels with 5mm wider spacers
Wheel Gold Crests
Natural Grey Leather
Black Instrument Dials
Carbon Package Interior
Carbon door entry Guards
Tilt/slide Sunroof
Sports Exhaust
Chrono
PASM
Cruise Control
Universal audio interface
This would be a new vehicle, can anyone tell me if this new revised carrera is powerful enough, I used to own a 997 Carrera S (350bhp)...
it will be just as fast or maybe even faster than your previous gen1 Carrera S.
I did test drive a Gen 2 Carrera and it was nice. I did end up with the 2011 911S however. Like that extra power... 385bhp I would think since the Gen 2 has DFI that you would be fine coming from 350 down to 340bhp.
The new Carreras use the 9A1 engine and Direct Fuel Injection (DFI). The low end torque of DFI is much better than the old M97 Port Injection engines and the 9A1 series has 40% fewer parts and NO IMS to fail. Even though the top HP is a tad lower, this would be a much better performing engine. A mild tune would put you over the top. Most Porsche dealers will add tuning options which are warranty friendly, e.g. Tubi exhaust, GIAC ECU, etc.
Thanks, I may wait for the 2011 Carrera model, 365Bhp and 1370 kgs! 993 style mirrors bigger front for luggage etc.. was just reading about it on autocar... should return 30+ mpg too ???
what do you think?
As Doc Kareem says the Gen 2 911 will be as fast or quicker than a Gen 1 911S. If you got PDK it would be noticably quicker!
They say the Gen 2 has better handling characteristics, but are our driving skills up to judging them?? Yes there are some nice improvements over the Gen 1 but I am not sure it is worth switching in this way.
The car you are looking at is very nicely optioned. The power available on the C2 is more than adequate. Have you had a chance to test drive the car? I assume that white is no longer considered less desirable than other colors in the UK? Insofar as waiting for the next generation, it will be shown at Frankfurt in 9/11 and likely available in the UK 11/11 so it's about a year away. There are aspects of the new car that do not seem desirable (longer, wider) and those that do (lighter, more power). You know what you're getting w/ the current model, the next generation remains unknown. If the pricing on the car you are currently interested in is attractive I would consider going forward w/ the purchase and driving the car for several years while the new model and its potential issues are shaken out. Good luck!
Thanks everyone, but is this model 3.6 litre.. I think the torque would suffer quite badly, thinking of deleting the sunroof for weight, cost and sleekness too.
May choose Arctic silver with either a black side stripe or no side stripe at all.
