This is not a probability of success.

Its otherwise very clean, no indication from the bottom of the vehicle that it was winter driven - no rust.

As soon as there is enough upper cylinder scoring to see in scope pic, a leak down/compression test will show problems.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Am looking at an '04 4S and a Fall 2024 PPI shows a hint of scoring on cylinder 6 from the top (through the sparkplug). The ims isnt done either. It has 41K miles. Much of the other engine related issues have been sorted already - ie water pump, AOS and driveshaft seals, alternator. Obviously dealer is saying this can last forever like this. Its otherwise very clean, no indication from the bottom of the vehicle that it was winter driven - no rust. Is this worth pursuing further?

POST 2Original post

Dealers are clueless and salespeople just want to sell you a car, they don't care what happens after the car leaves the lot. Once the scoring starts it's only a matter of time until you will need to rebuild the engine. It's worth pursuing further if you are planning to rebuild the engine at some point and it's priced in.

Besides the scoring you should plan on doing the IMSB if you like sleeping at night. They don't all fail but when they do it ain't good!

What is a hint..? She is either pregnant or not... Get a new (not 6 month old) PPI by your own tech, with a HD clear bore scope from the top or sump, thats not zoomed in, to show reference of a large area of cylinder wall... Should be no scoring of cylinder walls in a healthy engine, none... If you do see scoring, engine is not healthy. As soon as there is enough upper cylinder scoring to see in scope pic, a leak down/compression test will show problems.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"hint" as described by the salesperson. Appreciate all the responses which basically confirmed what I already thought. Just need some porschephile perspective! I have passed on the car.
