I just bought this pair of mufflers on eBay and realized they are off a
987.2
after they shipped (I forgot to check when ordering).
I'm wondering if I can still install them on my
987.1
2.7L
Cayman
. I read a few prior posts mentioning that the "inlet pipes need to be cut and welded": how difficult is this for a shop to do? Or am I better of re-selling these and getting a pair of
987.1
mufflers instead?
Thanks in advance!
@Cake
- AFAIK, you're likely going to want to just resell these on. The 987.2 muffler is not the same as in an 987.1. Especially in that there are catalytic converters in the .1 and not in the .2 - you might run into trouble here; YMMV. (BTW - Where in NY are you? I'm up in Boston.)
Damn.
I'm in west NY but will be in Boston for work
next
weekend if you want to buy these!
Thanks,
@Cake
- I personally am all set as I just reinstalled my own stock exhaust back on the car. However, if I find someone who's looking for a 987.2 base exhaust, I'd be happy to steer them your way.
FWIW, what you have there came from a 987.2 base (2.9L) Boxster as the tip in the picture is the base version. The "S" 3.4L has the double-tip.
I did some digging and found something interesting According to the parts catalogue, the
987.2 exhaust
mufflers will also fit
987.1
if the
987.2
has the "non-switchable sports
exhaust
":
Left muffler 987-113-511-31
2007-2012 Porsche Muffler & Pipe 987-113-511-31 | Sunset Porsche Parts
Right muffler 987-113-512-31
2007-2012 Porsche Muffler & Pipe 987-113-512-31 | Sunset Porsche Parts
However, if the 987.2 does not have the sports exhaust, the exhaust mufflers will not fit 987.1:
Left muffler 987-113-117-BX

Right muffler 987-113-118-BX
