The only symptom I have right now is the car feels sluggish, but I think this is because my mufflers are split and need replacing (possible back pressure issues / lambda sensor?)

You could have a leakdown test performed which is a good indicator of an individual cylinders issues compared to another ie if one leaks down more than the next it can indicate poor valve seal, ring issues etc .....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Before my warranty runs out in 1week, I was wondering if its worth having a pressure test done to check cylinders/gaskets etc are all okay. I dont know enough about how issues with linings / rings / gaskets would manifest itself. If there was something wrong, would it be very noticeable / obvious? The only symptom I have right now is the car feels sluggish, but I think this is because my mufflers are split and need replacing (possible back pressure issues / lambda sensor?) So - does anyone with the technical knowledge think its worth having the pressure test done before I go warrantyless? Its a 2000 C2 with 55k miles, had 96k service last week at OPC Chiswick (who are morons). Josh

POST 2Original post

You could have a leakdown test performed which is a good indicator of an individual cylinders issues compared to another ie if one leaks down more than the next it can indicate poor valve seal, ring issues etc ..... but to be honest, such issues are normally quite apparent in rough running, oil burning etc..... It's not something that will hurt but it may also not be something that will prove of much value.... It will also be a time consuming job for someone to do as there is a bit of work to get all the plugs out etc to do the test....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Jeff - if I understand you correctly, it sounds like a problem with rings, gaskets, lining etc would be quite apparent in everyday running and so I would have noticed it. Think I will pass then, as it runs fine, no misfires, white smoke etc etc

POST 4Original post

Yes, a leakdown (which is more reliable than a compression test) will also indicate engine wear so can give you a good idea on engine health. It's a nice thing to get done to a car pre-purchase as a guide to how "even" then engine is etc.... I would suggest though if you've been owning it for a while it's not really necessary....
