Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

The Cayman R by any standard is a unique and excellent sports car. It was a special model in part because of it's cherished Porsche factory R designation. The R was only built in 2011 and was marketed as a 2012 model year. It is estimated....(no one seems to know for sure) that there were only 1421 Cayman R produced for sale world wide. It would be nice to know where they are, when they were produced, color, PDK or manual, and carbon fiber buck seats or not. We could probably track much more but I wanted to keep it simple. More detail and pictures and certainly welcome! I am suggesting that all the world wide Cayman R owners post the following information. I will track the information and post it periodically...say ever 25 posts or so so that everyone can see the results. It may also serve as a way to connect to other R owners in your area. Lets see what happens. You can find information on the cars decals or certificate of sale. Post what you can.... 1. post the last 6 digits of your Vin Number( also note if the car is one built in Finland...U before the digits or S for Germany) 2. date of manufacture 3. color 4. PDK or Manual 5. Carbon fiber sport seats...Yes or no 6. Your Province, State, City or District 7. Country I am collecting data on Pelican, ********, and the PCA Cayman Registry sites and will combine the data from all three. We have almost 100 car registered in just the last 2 weeks. Good progress. Thanks for your support.

POST 2Original post

Hi Rick, This is a great idea. I'm responding on the site, as I want to be a source of information to the person who bought my R in NC and had it shipped to CA. He or she can PM me with any questions about it. I ordered the car from the Porsche dealer in Greensboro, in March 2011, & picked it up in June. Before ordering the car, I drove two hours to a dealer that had a car with sport buckets, and spent 30 minutes- sitting in it, getting in & out of it, then drove home & ordered the car with them. I would not have a car without them! The only other options I added were the xenons, PDK w/ sport chrono , & I kept the stock A/C & radio- (don't need no stinkin' Bose !). Meteor Grey- a great color for the Cayman , and stealthier than the GR I would have if I didn't have to worry about driving points. I sold the car, only because there was a gleam in Andreas Preuninger's eye, that there would be a GT4 in the future. It had less than five thousand miles a year on it, and I had a hard time letting go of it. But I was offered a great price, and I couldn't justify having a car like that as a DD. I bought it to track, and took it to Carolinas Motorsport Park, Rd ATL, Barber, Roebling Road, ATL Motorsports Park (new, but a Hermann Tilke design!) and VIR full course. The car was phenomenal, even with street tires. It may have been a mistake to pass on the R- being such a low production model, the value may hold up very well. My best to all of you R owners- drive it like you stole it. YMMV, John GT4- #1 on my dealer's list (& don't get me started about the LWB's!)

I have copied this thread over to the Porsche forum on Pistonheads (a UK based board) so that any owners on there wishing to add to your list can do so.

Got the data in the data base. Interesting two US later delivery cars that are built in Finland??? This data may bring up more questions than it answers. The more data we get the more interesting it becomes. Evoroadster. It would be good to know your build date. It can be found on the door or hood sticker, or if you have a Certificate from PCA. Thanks for your support, Rick

I need the Vin number in order to post it to the Registry. It will be on the inside frame of the drivers door. Also check if the letters presiding the 79xxxx number are CU or SU? Thanks, Rick

POST 22Original post

we have two cars with the same vin number in this thread. One is made in Finland the other in Germany. Could CaymanR_cw and modliving please double check your Vin numbers? If this is correct then the traditional sequencing of Cayman R vin numbers as we have know it is out the window. Also in looking at the data there doesn't seem to be a pattern for whether a car was made in Finland or Germany. We have almost 100 cars registered and I was going to wait until we hit 100 to complete the initial data sumary. I have collected data from 4 different sites and forums. Thanks, Rick
