Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once changed get some mesh in front of them to prevent stones getting them and stop leaves getting in there and assisting the corrosion.

I need to check when my car had that warranty hose recall, if its over 6 years I will be having all New engine hose's fitted when she is serviced in Nov.

I left my centre one alone but changed all the hoses that joined them.

More than likely it replaced only the ones affected by the recall due to manufacturing error.

While it was all apart it made sense to change the a/c condensers as well.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Bear in mind that if you change an engine rad you have to drain the system down which takes time & costs money - so if the car is older & the leak is more likely to be corrosion, it may be economical to do the other side too if it is close to going.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone give me some advice on changing the engine cooling rads on a 996, should the leaing rad be replaced or all, are ther 2 or three. Should the AC heat exchanger be replaced at the same time?
thanks
Cam
first of all you have 2 a/c condensors at the front with 2 cooling rads sat behind the condensors... if its a tip you will have a rad in the centre..
is one of them leaking ?
tendancy at opc is to replace both or all 4 but the choic is yours really on how much debris has been sat in front of them and for how long...
I think there is a guide somewhere.. I dont have the link to hand but it has been mentioned here before... see if the search yeilds any results and I trying to dig out the link in the evening..

Basically you have to decide what is right for you with the info you have. For example, if the car is one year old, it is likely that one rad is leaking due to being hit by a stone as they don't corrode that quickly. If the 911 is the same as the Boxster, the Air-con rads are in front of the engine rads so it would be worth checking that too in that circumstance. Changing these requires re-gassing. Bear in mind that if you change an engine rad you have to drain the system down which takes time & costs money - so if the car is older & the leak is more likely to be corrosion, it may be economical to do the other side too if it is close to going. If you live in the country and the air scoops are full of wet leaves, these come into contact withthe metal rads & cause corrosion. A word of caution though, on my 1998 Boxster I just changed one and the other one is fine so far (fingers crossed), so don't believe OPC hype about changing both if you believe the other to be fine. If you can't check yourself, find a good indi who you can trust to give an honest opinion.

its for a boxter but I was told the 996 is the same for accesing the rads!.
just had another look at the link, go above and select Skyler's boxter and you'll see the one from there about the rads.
hope this is useful.
I recently had both left and right rads changed as well as my two a/c condensers. Once you see the state of the 10 year old rads you'll realise why you need to change them. Once changed get some mesh in front of them to prevent stones getting them and stop leaves getting in there and assisting the corrosion.
While it was all apart it made sense to change the a/c condensers as well.
I left my centre one alone but changed all the hoses that joined them. The hoses were near dead as well.
10 years is about it for the 996 cooling system before you'll hit issues....

Jeff
This is the same thread I was referring to... excellent guide.
There also a few other - This is for the 996 C4S - (registration may be required to view page - I can poll the page if required)

Removing the front PU is easy.. I have a spare PU which I change every year when the fitted one get stone chipped. Takes about an hour from start to finish.
I am not sure I would change my rads myself ?? Anyone done them ??
A couple of bolts Dan but it's the refilling and bleeding of the system that's harder. I'd put new hoses on at the same time as mine were dead. Also when you frig with the old hoses you'll likely have an issue soon after. Just leave it to someone Dan.
No, I would not do it myself..

After hearing about that chap at the 'Ring, and a few other that have gone..
I would not assume that the recall replaced all hoses. More than likely it replaced only the ones affected by the recall due to manufacturing error. I actually couldn't get any real detail on the recall as it didn't quote actual part numbers used that match anything available....
