Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Right lads, it pretty obvious that the price of performance cars are only going one way at the moment :frustrated: I'm not a stupid man, I know cars depreciate, but at this moment in time I want to be sat in a car that will last me a good 2-3 years (me and the missus will want to start a family hopefully by then) and a 911 is not the best family car :hand: When I bought the C4s back in May I thought that should I need to sell if my situation were to change, it would be relatively painless but that is not the case now by the looks of things :x My question to you all is this, should I get out now or ride the wave for another 12 months? Surely there is going to be a leveling of prices soon? If not the £10k turbo could be here come spring uh: I have had a couple of offers over the past few days in the way of a "swap" for a B7 RS4. Although I am aware that it is an Audi it would be a great car as a family car if ever needed but would I be jumping from the frying pan and in to the fire re depreciation? Out of all the 996's in my opinion I am sat in one of the best come resale what with spec, model and colour etc and I really love the car but I just cant help thinking about it :?:

POST 2Original post

Tricky one- sort of in the same position myself. Gut feel says don't bother at the moment as there are few buyers about. That said, prices aren't going to go up again. But they will find a level. So, in essence, the depreciation that would have happened has happened sooner, so you can probably run it for a couple of years more without the value getting alot worse. An RS4 would be fun though, and is a fantastic car in its own right. The old shape V6 RS4 has held its value as well as a 996. Dare I say it...

POST 3Original post

I must admit, I'm thinking the same thing. I've lost about 8k in depreciation alone in six months. Whilst I appreciate appreciate the prices go down, they'll never up, so do you sell now, or do you hold out and get an ever poorer price in a few years. If you are trading up, I'd be tempted to leave it a while, as the cost of change will shrink, but if you are trading down (eg. buying a 4 year old for about £10k), then I'd be quite tempted to do that now. I'm thinking about a Mini Cooper S, but not sure. The 2 things that are affecting this decision are: a. My car will shortly go above 50k miles - so even bigger depreciation b. The warranty renewal is going to be 1500 + service (or 2500 for 2 years) - I don't want to run my car without warranty So, sell it for about £23k and bank the rest for the time being.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I too have lost a big wedge of cash, mainly because I bought one of the last 996's off an OPC, but the work that got done on the car prior to delivery was in excess of £7k so I thought it was a no brainer  I think us "private" sales are in a very good position vesuvuis the warranty, I have OPC cover until end of May 2009 and is transferable, not many Indy's can say that Bottom line is I am NOT going to give in and sell for peanuts, the prices I see on the net now are bordering on ridiculous and IMHO I think it is people who are in financial trouble needing to sell desperately, hence the stupid offers. There are also a lot of "arm chair" buyers out there talking prices down but I have spoken to a few members on other forums who have sold late C4s's privately in the past 6 weeks for over £36k, compare that to a bid you would get off a garage this afternoon should you call one :hand: I just dont know what to do, buying the 911 was meant to be a dream for me but all I seem to do at the moment is worry about this damn credit crunch and how hard it will bite c:
