But scale of economy is probably what forces Soul to use the same remote across many systems offered for sale

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've just bought
SOUL
catted
headers
and a valved
exhaust
system for my
987.2 Cayman S
- rather exciting (!)
Sadly the car currently does not have
PSE
(no vacuum lines to run) or
Homelink
(no remote to map), so I'll have to install the
SOUL
-supplied (possibly actually DesignTek) valve controller, run new vacuum lines and control the valves with the supplied remote. Which to be frank is totally fine, and a very minor thing
But....
1) Is it feasible to retrofit a new
PSE
switch (likely needs a new switch cluster in the center console) and use that to control the valve controller unit by wire?
2) Or is it feasible to retrofit
Homelink
? (which could be more useful anyway, but might be more cosmetically complicated to put holes in the headliner etc)
Cheers, Jon
If you can install
homelink
, then that is a known way to make it work. I have a
981
and
homelink
and may get the
soul
pp valved
next
year. My thought was to do the
homelink
and then start researching how to use the
PSE
button. I am thinking if there was room to make a custom connection from the
PSE
button to the key fob inside the center console. Not sure where but I saw this on another forum (not
Porsche
related) for a garage door opener where the typical opener button you clip on the sunvisor was connected to a button on the console with the electrical board from the fob inside the console. Probably over thinking this and will just stick with the
homelink
, but I love to tinker.
Jon,
I had a
Porsche
PSE
installed on my 2010 BS by an indie shop I use. It's 100% OEM -- valves, switches, etc. So the switch cluster mods can be done as you want. How you'd connect the
Porsche
switch to the
Soul
valves, I don't know. But a good indie shop should be able to help.
PS: I did something similar to what you're doing. Added
PSE
and
Fabspeed
catted sport
headers
. You will LOVE the sound, especially at WOT. Enjoy!

I'm not familiar with
Soul
valving- does it use
Homelink
RF to control the valving? Just open&close like it was a garage door? If so, you could just get one of the small visor transmitters and keep it down in the cubby. I'm assuming you aren't constantly needing to adjust the settings.
It’s a fob that you press the button opened and closed. You can link to home link if you have it. Would be great to link to stock looking
PSE
switch. With enough money and time there is a way.
Hi guys - thanks for the responses!
After some more reading and asking around (including
SOUL
themselves) it sounds like:
1. The supplied valve controller is RF-only, and I've no idea if there's a wired-version. Presumably a factory somewhere could (or probably already
does
) make a wired version, but then you'd have to run new wires - so my guess was off.
2. If one really wanted a wired button in the center console, the canonical way to achieve that would be to retrofit most of the factory PSE system (switch gear into the ECU wiring harness (with ECU flashing to tell it it has PSE), OEM valve controller and vacuum lines) and then "wire" (tube??) the exhaust into the new OEM vacuum lines. Quite a nice solution but not cheap - approx 2k USD
3. Alternatively one could retrofit Homelink - I've no idea if this would be even more expensive, but probably involves cutting into the headliner (might need removal?) and more wiring and probably some ECU flashing. No idea...
I do like Ernest's idea of installing a wireless transmitter that looks like a PSE button... I wonder if that could be as simple as gutting a remote fob controller and wiring it up to be activated by (and effectively sit hidden behind) a new PSE button in the switches on the center.
The main (and it's purely cosmetic and inconsequential) thing I'd like to achieve is making this otherwise ugly RF remote disappear
https://www.amazon.com/TOPENS-HomeLink-Compatible-Universal-transmitters/dp/B07CWNX1P8
possibly I could replace it with a slightly more out of the way visor transmitter
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Compatible-LiftMaster-Chamberlain-Multicode/dp/B08741G88F
<EDIT> Or possibly even better, wire up this thing (
https://www.amazon.com/GENHLBP1-Wireless-Homelink-Tractor-Motorcycle/dp/B077NYF667/
) to a PSE button in a new switch pack (
Dedicated to your Porsche needs
)
If I had to have a small remote to activate
PSE
the first place I would contemplate and investigate would be under the seat; easily activated but not in any way obstructing the seat adjustments. Perhaps Velcro mounted upside-down. If I worked for
SOUL
I'd make integration of product function a priority. They and others would sell more units if functionality after installation was a simple achievement. I think that's especially true since factory units are not easy to acquire.
I asked
Suncoast
about option #2 before. They priced out a
Soul Exhaust
along with all the hardware and switch for the vacuum solenoid and
PSE
button. That part of the equation was something like $1500.
I believe the dealer will sell you a new console that has the button with the tail pipe for a fairly reasonable price but not sure about all the vacuum tubes and such.
If I get the
soul
valved
next
year. I have a great stereo electronics guy. I will figure it out with him. My plan would be to get a stock switch but somehow connect to the fob. We will see.
Reviving this a few months on... The
Soul headers
and
exhaust
are fantastic, but I didn't do anything clever with the switch system yet - just using the supplied RF fob. Did any of you guys on the thread do anything?
