Suggestion

Another option might be to wire the oil temp sensor to replace the water temp sensor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

I'm wanting to get the oil temp and pressure in my Cayman , transmission temp could be useful too. I have used an OBD scanner and found these live data streams, so it is definitely possible to get this data through the OBD port. How easy would it be to set up a wireless data stream to somewhere else in the car or on a device? Another option might be to wire the oil temp sensor to replace the water temp sensor. If anyone knows how this might work please let me know too.

987.1 or 987.2 ? The 987.1 does not have an oil pressure sending unit, so there is no way there can be any OBD data on oil pressure. I'm not sure about the 987.2 . Oil temp is part of the OBD data stream. It obtains the temp from the oil level sensor. There are generic devices for sale that plug into the OBD port and send wireless data streams to a phone. 2007 Porsche Cayman S- Adding an Oil Pressure Gauge As many of you already know, the 987.1 Cayman did not come with an oil pressure gauge on the dash. Depending on how you use the car, this can be a little disconcerting. As I discussed in an article… newhillgarage.com

POST 3Original post

Yours is a 2008.. so the sensor you need simply isn't there, and it would require a bit of work to add it. There is a possibility to do it with the 997Research gauge. They (Christopher) have a solution for you.. Standalone Water/Oil temp and oil pressure gauge for 997 and 987 — 997research It will give oil and REAL water temps (the dash gauge is a fraud..) and oil pressure and system voltage. All in one compact display. I looks like they're having a Black Friday sale - making it a really good deal. Shop — 997research
