Suggestion

Well, I'd estimate I've lost close to £10k in 9 months and I'd be surprised if I get much more than £15k in a years time, but then again, the cost of change for a reasonable 997 (easily sub-30k by then) won't be that much.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Let us know what you sold it for, whether it was private ot trade sale , and the spec/milage of the car, this will give a very good indication of current price trends.

POST 2Original post

No don't. I need as much for mine as possible....

POST 3Original post

'another' how low can a 911 be sold for thread.....:wack: http://911uk.com/adverts.php

POST 6Original post

Yes. Sorry chaps, I waited 6 months to buy and watched the prices tumble. In the end I could afford a well specced 997 instead of a 996, and from an OPC too! Depreciation is a fact of life (death, taxes, and the decline in price of your 911).

POST 7Original post

Unless you are basking in the warmth of the rock steady residual of a well kept air cooled 911 :hand:

POST 8Original post

I need to drive the car every day, so basking in the warmth is not an option!;-) ...much as I would have loved an aircooled machine!

POST 9Original post

You were in the position to choose, an '04 996 now or a '05 997 later, that's a tricky predicament that was certainly worth waiting for. That aside the 997 did depreciate more thanks to oversupply. In your situation I'd have done the same

POST 10Original post

Tricky indeed - 996C4S or 997S (both cabs). In the end the price, modernity and ease of use swung it (my partners daily drive). The 997 is a very different car. Interesting thread on 996 values is still running, and C4S and GT3's aside, the 996 values are going to be interesting in a few years!

POST 12Original post

> The 997 is a very different car. Interesting thread on 996 values is still running, and C4S and GT3's aside, the 996 values are going to be interesting in a few years! 996 and 997 alike. Given the option, I'd rather buy a 997, than the 996. However, my view was that I wanted to buy cash and still leave a lump in my savings. I figured that I could see no reason why the 997 would depreciate any differently than the 996 (ie. majority of depreciation in the first 3-5 years). Therefore the cost to change won't be as high, I won't lose quite as much money (accepting that I will lose quite a lot of money anyway) and I still have some cash in the bank just in case. At least that was the theory and seeing how the 996 and 997 prices have both dropped proportionally to their age/price, then that would be supported. For example, the cheapest 997 (non 'S' 54 reg, low miler) at a good Indy was £42k. 6 months on, there's plenty of 997 C2 at less than 40k, good mileage and a year younger. I believe this is because OPC told me that the majority of buyers lease/HP/never-never cars for a 3 year period and this is being reflected by your case (ie. nice 997 C2 coming into play) and the amount of 997 stock now available. Of course, on the never-never is a perfectly attractive and reasonable option, but I prefer to keep as much liquidity as possible, especially with school fees etc (and concern over balloon at the end being more than the value of the car...but easily 'bridged' with another loan). In terms of how low can then go? Well, I'd estimate I've lost close to £10k in 9 months and I'd be surprised if I get much more than £15k in a years time, but then again, the cost of change for a reasonable 997 (easily sub-30k by then) won't be that much. My investments would have matured by then, so I can use some of this "extra" the fund the difference. At least that's the plan!!! But according to the BBC, we'll be all doomed by then, so maybe not.

POST 14Original post

Excellant plan! Mine too in fact!! I'm going to hope that a tasty 997C4S is in my price range in X years!!1! and my stock market gambles pay off!!!

what a great idea - lets do the same with houses... ??? on a serious note, surely price trends are largely captured by Glass' guide ?
