It's a seal grey 53 plate with some nice options (switchable PSE with the speed cut-out disabled, PCM, heated seats, cruise control, assorted silver bits but not too many, etc), but it was the condition and mileage (33k) that sold it to me.

The reasons for the change of plans are probably the subject of another thread, but after nearly 2 years of driving lots and looking at more, it is the car that most suites me at the moment.
Leading evidence: 'condition and mileage (33k)' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'condition and mileage (33k)' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace of plans are probably the subject of another thread' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have to wait 30 sec in either scenario before manually resetting the mirror to the original position (with the switch).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My one dips on reverse, but reverts back to normal as soon as its out of reverse.
Hello all,
Some of you may remember November 2006 was "National Lurkers Month" and in a fit of recklessness I stopped lurking and introduced myself. I said that I was looking for a 993 wide-body car and liked curry.
Well, I still like curry, but am no longer looking for a car - I recently became the proud owner of a 996 C4S. The reasons for the change of plans are probably the subject of another thread, but after nearly 2 years of driving lots and looking at more, it is the car that most suites me at the moment.
It's a seal grey 53 plate with some nice options (switchable PSE with the speed cut-out disabled, PCM, heated seats, cruise control, assorted silver bits but not too many, etc), but it was the condition and mileage (33k) that sold it to me. Actually it was the condition, mileage and PSE that sold it to me.
However, there is one issue that I can't seem to get to the bottom of and any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have been through the procedure to store seat & mirror positions with either the buttons or key, and put the car in reverse while doing so in order to get the passenger mirror to dip when selecting backwards. All works fine and the mirror dips when reverse is engaged, but when put back into neutral or first, the mirror does not revert back to its original position. In fact, for about 30sec after coming out of reverse, any change in the height of the mirror is ineffective as all the mirror wants to do is go back down to the dipped position. If you wait for 30sec (either in reverse or neutral), this stops, but the mirror still does not revert to its un-dipped position when coming out of reverse - you have to do it manually. I've cleared the memory and even had my local indie clear the system when plugged into their laptop, but it is still as described. I'm thinking something in the mirror is preventing it coming out of "dip" mode, and this could be a hardware issue rather than something in the software.
It's not a biggie as I tend to prefer going forwards, and other than that the car is perfect. But...
And hello to all again!
David
Ditto Sundeep. I didn't know they had this as well.
David - do you then have to manually operate the switch to restore the mirror angle to normal? I guess a Porsche specialist can do this but only after an OPC have told you exactly how to remedy the problem!
Btw, we have a tradition here of asking people who have bought new cars to post them up. Let's see yours.

I didn't realise they did this either!!!!
My old BMW used to do it (IIRC by leaving the left mirror adjuster toggle switch down).
Can you please explain how you do this?
I read the manual when I bought the car, but don't remember reading about this feature?
(off for a quick look in the manual)
Cheers,
GD
A-ha!!!
Page 49:
"Swivelling down mirror glass on the passenger's side

with seat memory
you can activate an additional parking aid..."
Manual says that you engage this by simply selecting reverse and should return to initial position when you move out of reverse
If you press the door mirror adjustment with reverse gear selected, the mirror automatically returns to the initial position.
Does it do this?
Unfortunately, my car doesn't have seat memory, so I can't check what it does.
Cheers.
Thanks for the replies chaps. In answer to your questions, the mirror dips when reverse is selected, but does not return either (a) when the switch is operated with reverse is still engaged or (b) when reverse is de-selected. I have to wait 30 sec in either scenario before manually resetting the mirror to the original position (with the switch). If I try to do this before 30 sec has elapsed, the mirror just dips again. It's as if the "ah, he's put it in reverse, I must now dip" function does not know when to turn itself off and the motors keep running to force it down for a while. By the time it has stopped doing this, it has forgotten where it is and so does not return.
I've spoken to Camtune who have seen problems like this before and think that a new control unit may be required, but query whether it is worth the bother. I agree with them, but as I have an extended warranty, it may be something to get fixed if I find myself having any other warranty work being done later, assuming it is covered. In the meantime I may just disable the feature and avoid going backwards...
Maxie - given it has done nothing but rain since I have had the car, I have yet to take some decent pictures of it. While I wait for our Indian Summer to arrive (yeah, right), is there a FAQ for posting photos on the forum - specifically I do not have any means of hosting photos myself.
Cheers,
David
