Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The switches often fail, but can be replaced separately.
Leading evidence: 'Replace separately' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'different' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I think your problem is different to the usual single-beep caused by an open compartment.

Suspected cause
If it makes no noise at all it is probably a faulty door switch.

When you mention a diagnostic check, do you mean via a Porsche dealer ?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have had my C2 996 Cab for two weeks now, I have noticed this morning while unlocking that the horn chirps twice  Experimentation shows that this is intermittent, any ideas to what is happening here please ?
Thanks
Roger
Mine does this when i leave the bonnet slightly open when my trickle chargers connected which would suggest that if a door or boot, bonnet is not closed correctly it beeps could be wrong though
An open compartment will give you a SINGLE beep on locking. A double-beep indicates an alarm system fault. You really need to get it checked out with a PST2 or PIWIS to see the fault codes.
My 996 C2 has started to do this upon locking and unlocking - although at present it would appear to be intermittent. It would also appear that the driver's window no longer drops when unlocking either from the inside or outside making shutting it a pain in the .....................
Are these two likely to be linked?
Thanks!
hopgor,
I think your problem is different to the usual single-beep caused by an open compartment. That's because it is double-beeping on UN-locking.
When the door unlocks, the motor operates the latching mechanism, which hits a microswitch to signal that the door has unlocked. What could be happening in your case may be:
a) the motor isn't operating the latch, or
b) the microswitch isn't signalling the control unit to say that it is open.
This could occur on either the driver's side or passenger side. Clearly the driver's side is unlocking, because you can get in. Next time it happens, check to see if the passenger door has unlocked.
However, it's more likely to be one of the microswitches in the door lock, but like I said, a diagnostic check would show that up. The microswitches (all 5 of them) are embedded in the door lock assembly, so you have to change the whole thing.
As for the window-drop problem - this is usually one of the two separate microswitches that are on the inside and outside door handles. When you lift the handle, it drops the window about 10mm. The switches often fail, but can be replaced separately.
HTH
Thanks Richard,
I have checked and both doors open.
When you mention a diagnostic check, do you mean via a Porsche dealer ?
I imagine the whole door assembly is going to be expensive... :nooo:
A decent independent could do it for you - almost all of them have Porsche Testers. If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berks) I'd be happy to do a diagnostic check.
An OPC will charge about £350 to change a door lock - an indy will be a lot cheaper.
Thank you all for your responses and especially Richard for your kind offer to check my car.
As i'm in Northampton for starters I will take the car into an indie next week and see what their check reveal and likely cost of repair.
Cheers
Roger
My pax side window was doing the same. Does your mechaninsm sound like it is trying to drop? , in which case it probably needs a new winder. If it makes no noise at all it is probably a faulty door switch.
TB
It doesn't appear to make any noise so guess it is one of the microswitches - just seems strrange that I'm also getting the double pip of the horn.
However, having said that it now appears to be working fine! I doubt this will last though as experience tells me it's more likely to return than not! I will get it into JZM once I've moved house at the end of the week
