Admittedly Cat S, but all repaired with Porsche parts and a rather special spec.

All i know is that the current ones for sale are not really going for overs anymore and there does seem to be a substantial amount of used cars on the market.

Lead times are relatively long still because of the issues with production during Covid but they’re coming down all the time…my guess is in six to nine months lead times on new 911’s will be back to a few months at which point used cars will be at a significant discount to new prices.

Suggestion
Is there really any shock that a model that is coming up to 4 years old, recently replaced by the Gen 2 derivative, is now available used under 100k when prices probably started around 100-115k ?

Suggestion
The base and S are slightly less firm, I’ll not say soft as neither are, but the GTS is fine and better still after I dropped the tyre pressures down to the comfort setting - the ride is less jarring and the tyre roar from the rear has reduced slightly.

Apologies In advance for the how long is a piece of string value question but hear me out!
Bit of background first for context, I’ve had a deposit down on an Emira since July 2021 (i4 amg version). Various annoyances over the last year or two mainly due to poor comms from Lotus had me starting to look at alternatives. So much so that I was close to ordering a new Gts late last year.
I decided against stretching the budget as I thought I’ve got a good price locked in with the Lotus ( at the time we were told that if you had an early deposit there would be no price rise.) However that promise has been pulled and the car has gone up another 8% which is kind of sore but not a deal breaker yet and I still have my deposit in.
Despite this I still keep looking at the Gts and the extra practicality of the rear seats are appealing. But now that the interest rates have rocketed I can only afford a used car @ £120-130k region and that’s only if I sell my vx220t which I’m not sure I want to part with!
So it leads me to the question of how long realistically before we see these at around the £100k mark, which would mean I could keep the VX and cancel the Emira.

I don't see a 100k GTS (in a decent spec) for at least another 12 months, maybe in line with Gen 2 cars being released to the market. Just look at the 991 GTS market. 5 year old cars are still around that price, so the chance of jumping into a 18 month old model is slim.
With inflation looking to drop significantly in the latter end of 2023 you would expect interest rates to drop again, and thus finance rates also, so once again the cars become more attractive to more people, supporting stronger used values.
I agree with Hobo, and if you look at 991 GTS, while there is alot to choose from 2018 GTS Targas as >100k still and 8yr old 2015 GTS 991.1 are 70k - premium dealers (Paragon et al) still asking for >85k for low mile gen 1 cars. If 992 GTS hit 100k this year, then the car market (and many other things likely too) will have taken a significant 'correction' IMHO
How about a 991.2 Turbo S? Start at around £100k now and you get the extra back seats, bucketloads of performance but less engaging than a GTS to drive

It’s so odd that as standard / as that one is spec’d that it has a plastic dashboard, whilst even the entry level c2 has a leather dash.
Looks really cheap, so long as you don’t mind the low spec.
If Porsche do increase their prices by 8% from April as muted then it’ll support the used car prices.

Wow didn’t expect them to be at that price already. Was only the last the month people were trying for silly overs on a 992 gts.
Looking at the spec, which is fine if you can live with the plastic dash and without looking at the configurator I’d say that car is pretty much close to list when purchased at the end of 2021, maybe slightly over.

Doesn’t look a bad spec to be fair.
When you are seeing nearly new cars advertised for around £150k and one that’s a year old for £115k shows you how fast they are in free fall!
Couple of weeks ago there was a nearly new car for £120k didn’t hang around long though, but some dealers are still trying it on for the uninformed

Some were being sold at premiums, as per post below this one’s quite a basic / odd spec, hence it’s 10k cheaper than the next cheapest.
Pre-Covid a good spec 991.2 GTS was an £80 to £90k car…which would have been circa £30k below list on a car that was less than two years old. Dealers had plenty of new ones looking for a home.
Prices of nearly new cars are clearly driven by wait times on new cars. Lead times are relatively long still because of the issues with production during Covid but they’re coming down all the time…my guess is in six to nine months lead times on new 911’s will be back to a few months at which point used cars will be at a significant discount to new prices. So a £100k 992 GTS by the end of the year ? It’s a possibility.
The sooner everyone gets back to the mindset that used cars deprecate the better. This is especially true for mass produced Carreras.
The last couple of years have been an anomaly and I'm looking forward to the days where most buyers are more concerned with the driving experience rather than "resale spec". The example linked above actually has most of what anyone would need options-wise
I plugged a reg plate for an OPC (71) GTS 17500 miles into Motorway and WBAC and the valuations came out at £96,000 and £101,000 respectively. I can’t see an OPC offering more than that, unless it is particularly high spec.

It doesn’t, it’s missing the leather covered dash which every 911 bar the GTS has as standard. They become showroom monuments without it.

Agree, the car linked above would have been traded around the numbers you mention.
These Opc want / need 15k margin or more in these cars.
A 911 gts was never going to stay at overs for long.
From what I understand Porsche are working hard to get lead times back down to 3 to 6 months on all new cars.

There is over supply of GTS because thats the model Porsche mostly produced for the last 18 months, and prices are softening because of this and low spec cars always suffer the most. But with the rumours of a 8% price rise secondhand prices will reflect this so early cars may drop to the 100k mark in the winter months but everyone has been saying the market will have a correction for the last year but it’s not happening yet and some secondhand prices are firming up again which may be due to the time of year.
If we only had a crystal ball !!!
Too many 992GTS cars were built to preserve residuals let alone overs. Same goes for the 718GT4 and 992 Turbo S. These are all mass produced cars and the residuals will reflect this from now on.
Same goes for Taycans where you currently have a huge choice for £20-30k under new invoice cost.

I know, terrible right.
To spec that car now, it would cost pretty much £120,000.00 to the penny, so its £5,000.00 under list for a 15 month old, 12000 mile example, ie retaining 96% of current value. However, with price increases since original purchase it was probably nearer a £115,000.00 car, so retaining 100%, and the owner likely got around £105,000.00 for it from the dealer, so in 15 months and 12000 miles has lost 10k, or 91% of its original value to them.
This isn't a limited run car, so what are you all expecting ? Personally I didn't expect to trade my Targa at overs (although could have likely made a quick 15-20k on delivery if I wanted to), but if I keep it another 6-12 months and lose 20k in the 2 years I've had it then I'll be more than happy to be honest. It it does better than that, then so be it. If it does worse, again, so be it.
I do think values will firm up in the run up to summer, as per normal with sports cars, but losses are to be expected with these cars.

Would agree to some degree, although certain GTS's will do better than others as has always been the case.
Taycan's are a whole different thing. The issue with EV's is the market is moving too quickly and no one wants out of date tech in old EV's. I have an Etron (55 engine model) which is just over 3 years old (very early adopter) and it has a range of around 170 miles in winter & 200 in summer. I have an order in on a replacement model (Q8 Etron), again the 55 model, and it will likely do nearer 225 miles in winter & 275 in summer, which is a considerable increase, and it isn't anywhere near the longest range EV out there. I'm also assuming most EV's are company cars for tax reasons, and therefore have to be new(ish) and therefore this further effects older models values. How many people buy 2nd hand laptops with old operating systems, processors, etc. The same goes for EV's, ie its generally old tech by the times its available to purchase.
Hence me purchasing my 992, and leasing my Etron.

Spot on Taff.
Porsche are in it for the profit hence them ramping up
the production of the Turbo s / GTS 992 and 718 gt4.
These cars make Porsche good profit, why build a base Carrera 992 or a base 718 cayman when you can build and sell products which makes a far higher £ value.
They are currently doing the same churning out high spec end of line Cayennes before the new model lands.

I more question why anyone would want to purchase a base 992 rather than a GTS version. A Carrera is £90k, a Carrera S is £103k & a GTS is £115k.
The market for the non GTS models must be small as a marque selling sports cars to enthusiasts, surely ? Moreso, with the T model at 100k.

Not everyone has 115k plus options to spend.
I’ve got a base Carrera , I was waiting for a T but got an allocation early last year and took it as the T launch was dragging on and to be fair it is as fast as required for uk roads. For an everyday sports car it ticks all the boxes.

Porsche pricing is weirdly inconsistent
The 'T' has circa 9-10k of desirable options on top of a base or s car, plus some bits you can't option or buy.
The GTS has various bits of spec [such as sport design pack] on top of an S but its £2800 to upgrade the interior to match the base car.
A 718 cab is a 2k premium over a hard top, a 911 Cab is a 10k premium over a tin top
A 992 can be had with PDK or manual as a nco. A Boxster is a 2k option to add a PDK.
They must chuckle when they pull the pricing together.

I'd also agree the standard Carrera is likely fast enough for UK road, but when has that ever been the point
I've said it on other chats that I would love to own a GT3 or Turbo S, however suspect in reality for 90% of time I would prefer my current Targa, as is certainly fast enough, and has the option for a bit of open air motoring which the others do not, and I'm not someone who is going to track it anymore, so the urge is just one to 'tick a box' I suspect

People buy Base 911s as they are a better daily than gts models .

All depends on what you prefer. I always wanted a 992 GTS, because it's a car I can daily, do some nice roads trips in it, occasional track/Nurburgring trip, and it's faster than a 992 GT3 in the real world and in 95% of situations.
Clearly the base Carrera and S are softer cars and some may prefer that, I totally get it. I think it's fair to say from the thread that Pivo put up of people with 992's on order, it's quite a decent spread of orders across the whole range just of people on this forum. So Porsche have it right and there's a market for all, otherwise they simply wouldn't produce them.
Also, most respected motoring journalists if not all see the GTS as the sweet spot, I think it was Henry Catchpole or Rory Reid who said that in reality, they see the 992 GTS as kind of between the GT3 and Turbo S, in that it's more dynamic to drive than a Turbo S and therefore has elements closer to a GT3, yet it has a Turbo engine with more than enough power, but still more useable than that of a Turbo S which is too much for the road. Think he also said the 992 GTS kind of makes the 992 Turbo redundant, because a lot of parts in the 992 GTS come from 992 Turbo/S, chassis, suspension, brakes, helper springs etc..... Therefore, I think you have the best of both worlds and makes the perfect one Porsche 911 garage IMHO.
I've done 3 PEC's at Silverstone, different instructors each time. Each time I asked them which is their favourite 911, 2 out of 3 said the GTS, one said Turbo S. Trusted opinions from people who drive all of them across the range day in day out.
Same applies to earlier incarnations
I own a 991.2 GTS which is brilliant all round
Although as undeniably amazing as the PDK is I still miss the manuals (all previous 8 911’s)

All good points……but have you driven a GT3? THAT engine eclipses any other points that may (or may not) make a GTS a better car in a wider variety of driving situations.
If a 1 is a Carrera and a 2 is a Carrera S, a 3 is a GTS, a GT3 must be a 6,7 or 8……THAT engine is a different animal and damn right phenomenal in both sound and performance…

Very easy question to answer, some people dont have the 25k base spec difference between a 2wd Carrera over GTS.
Another thing to consider is the more you spend on run of the mill Porsches when new normally means the more you loose in depreciation.
To many people have tried to jump on the let’s make a profit bandwagon. If a 992 gt3 is now loosing money there’s zero hope for a gts to hold its money.
Long term I feel the bases cars will do ok due to the lower entry point and fact that they have produced such low volumes over recent years.
Cheap financing is long gone and many will feel the pain when they need to refinance their ballon’s after 3 years.

Hi,
Yes, I have driven a GT3, a 991.2 and a 992 GT3. My friend has a 992 GT3 and we had a little swap of cars on a drive around the Peak District. I agree it's a great engine, but after he drove mine and I drove his, we both came to the conclusion that mine definitely felt quicker. There was really not much going on in the GT3 below 5k rpm, it actually felt slow. But yes, once above that then the noise is something else.
However, let's be honest, how often can we be hitting the redline on the normal roads? With mine, I think it's max torque from 2k rpm and it just flies whatever gear you're in and pulls hard all the way to the top, and that is far more satisfying and enjoyable to me. And the way Porsche have been able to achieve the howl even with the 3.0 Twin Turbo engine, with less sound deadening in the GTS, then it's quite a good sounding car as well. Not GT3 level of noise, but not too far off honestly.
We all like different things, but for me I like the low down Turbo kick in the back, and the way Porsche has been able to achieve this is amazing because it actually feels like a N/A car the way it revs out, just with the extra lower down grunt and no lag. It's a win win

Thanks. I've never genuinely driven one so was a serious question, however having had three GTS 911 variants now I struggle to see why people would not be able to daily a GTS. They are comfy, I can go over 90% of speed bumps without issue, have all mod cons, and the noise is obviously dialled down when not in sport or sports plus mode/s.
Personally, I just don't see the reason for choosing a standard model, but each to their own. The world would indeed be a duller place if everyone liked the same things.
Re the GT3 I agree with Schuey. The GT3 is an epic car, hence my interest in owning one, but the need to rev the engine makes it pretty much irrelevant on UK roads, and therefore not tracking it seems to be an injustice to the manufacturers, whereas the GTS pulls like a train at all revs no doubt similar to the Turbo S, although how anyone could need anything quicker is beyond me (as the GTS in itself is too quick for UK roads most of the time, and you need to keep your eye on the speedo all the time as its too easy to be going speeds which would see you having a break from driving for a considerable time if caught).

You don’t need to justify your thinking I was just answering the question you asked .
I found the gts I had too firm for daily use ,I could use it daily but the reality is the ride is firm ,acceptable but firm and there are better versions for pootling around in .
I agree about the opportunities to use the gt3 engine but when you can it does elevate it onto a different level of experience .

I’ve driven 3 992 variants up to now, base Carrera, S and GTS and would be happy dailying all of them. The base and S are slightly less firm, I’ll not say soft as neither are, but the GTS is fine and better still after I dropped the tyre pressures down to the comfort setting - the ride is less jarring and the tyre roar from the rear has reduced slightly.
One option I have got, which I’m not sure makes a difference is the noise reducing glass so I’d be interested in driving a GTS without it to make a comparison.
GT3 wise - wouldn’t get an allocation, can’t afford a 2nd hand one (at todays prices) and wouldn’t get the intended use (track) out of one so I’m more than happy with my lot.
Talking about ride.
A bit of context, I prefer a firm riding car.
My last three cars in order
992 CS with PDCC and PCCBS ride firm but ok
992 GTS no PDCC and no PCCBS ride too hard IMO
992 Turbo S with PDDC and PCCBS and lowered suspension ride is firm but fine.
I thing two things are affect the ride quality; PCCBs lower unsprung weight and the PDDC giving quite a soft anti roll function when travelling in a straight line.
Just got back from a return trip to Frankfurt in the tts and the ride, for me, was absolutely fine.

Great bit of context there, definitely understand the affect that the PCCBs would have and I assume from what you’ve experienced that the anti- roll effect of the PDDC results in a less jarring ride.
All I can say is damn you Porsche for giving us so many options!
Obviously my experience is the Targa GTS not the Coupe GTS, so set up softer naturally anyway and find it absolutely fine for everyday driving. Can't comment on a Coupe GTS as haven't driven one.

The targas have the regular suspension as you say ,the other gts models are firmer but useable .
Not driven a targa but I love the looks of it , do you notice the extra weight ?

I switched from a 991.2 GTS Coupe to a 992 GTS Targa, and the 992 is far superior in every way, so honestly I don't notice any increase in weight at all.
The latter is significant quicker, brakes better, handles much better and in general is a far nicer place to be. The 991.2 was certainly a great car, but the 992 is a massive step up in all aspects in my opinion (and has the option for a bit of open top motoring which has its benefits).

To be fair that was more or less what someone likely paid list price with that spec being very basic.
Someone mentioned a 991.2 turbo s as an alternative, I have looked at those but much prefer the interior and tech inside the 992.

There's a 2 year old 992 Turbo at Bolton for £139.9k which is less than many of the current '22 GTS listings

Not sure it does. Non 's' turbo's are notoriously hard to shift as not very desirable again its more expensive sibling.
Whilst I could like with the carmine exterior, I'm not sure I could deal with the mojave beige interior personally. I'd be saving up more for an 'S' with ceramics, in a decent colour combo, although appreciate its going to be 20k more at least.

You don’t see much written about the regular turbo but just looking at its performance figures why on Earth would you need more ? 0-100 in under 6 seconds .
I think it will be a while for the first £100k Gts but they are certainly dropping at a reasonable rate. Cheapest is currently £116k, decent spec manual. Seems to be a lot of price drops even at Opc, there was a carmine red up for £132k a few months ago, now up at £125k. Numbers are growing so it is putting pressure on prices across the board and demand dropping.
Mate has a 6 month old one, super low miles, was £140k list (coupe 4 GTS), not being used, so will be handing it back to Porsche.
How big a hit should he plan for ?

Blooming heck, 6 month old ones are listed at £149k, so that would suggest £30k spread ?
Easy option is to ask 'We Buy Any Car' or 'Motorway' as they will quickly give you a value, and I'd be pretty sure that the OPC will beat them as they want to control the used market.

That's if it was a genuine (and not chandelier) bidder.

sounds about right, higher than I expected slightly though
unsold because there was a reserve? wonder what it was set at
Was exactly in the ballpark of what i said below, 95k + fees would have made it the cheapest one thus far.
Knowing how CC works the reserve would have been 98k+ or they'd probably have offered to split their 7.2%
So 109k new (base price), plus 10k of options, making it just under 120k when initially registered in December 2021 (2 years ago). 20k (or 16.6%) depreciation in 2 years.
I appreciate the owner didn't likely get north of 90k, so depreciation to them around 30k, but still that's only 25% in 2 years and the market is clearly not in a good position currently, so I'd say that's great as could have lost significantly more on similar valued cars in 6 months never mind 2 years.

And what would the list price have been 2y ago? Less I suspect

As a GTS owner, not quite sure why it’s a surprise to anyone that this car’s depreciate.
IMO it’s only an issue if you can’t afford the car . I bought it to enjoy, not what it will be worth when I sell it .

It’s not a surprise, the question at start of thread was when will we see them at £100k, so it’s took 9 months or so.
They have gone from in demand £150k as overs cars to £100k cars so have seen massive depreciation unless you paid list and didn’t go mad on options!
Always have maintained if you bought a car at list, use it then normal depreciation is no drama this use to be circa 70% retained value at 3 years before the over’s madness!

'Overs' for a GTS model was always ridiculous. It was nice knowing you had a car which hadn't depreciated (I got an early Targa GTS), but it wasn't hard to get one, so paying 20k over is mental.
That said, it wasn't just a Porsche thing. I remember taking delivery of mine and likely being able to make 25k quite easily, but to buy what ? Everything had gone up, you couldn't get a slot or was trading over list, so it really didn't seem like a genuine 'over' to me, more just the market at the time.
The car above was 109k list with 10k of options, so 119k when new. It's now 100k after 2 years. The talk of the owners getting 'starting with a 7' is ridiculous talk. It would be mid/late '8's' IMO, so we are at 25-30% drop in 2 years, which to me seems pretty good compares with other some other cars on the market at this price point.

Do you think Porsche would offer much more than webuyanycar at this moment in time for that £100k car? Because their trade bid is £78.5k so not far off the money.
Trading in any car at the minute is going to be real low ball offers imo, not just Porsches btw.

So it’s nearly Christmas as there as only been 1 GTS listed under £100k unless I missed some. What does that tell use about the market?
There has been a handful at around the £100k mark now which have sold, so tells me that at least they sell at that price, others hovering above are still sitting there week after week, month after month. But punters are still buying at the lower end.

All i know is that the current ones for sale are not really going for overs anymore and there does seem to be a substantial amount of used cars on the market.
Priced have dropped a bit in the recent months for the early GTS cars, however seem to be firming up again now and I suspect strengthen more as summer becomes nearer.
That aged quickly.

That aged quickly.
Did it ?
I posted that in March and it’s now December and not sure we still don’t seem to have 100k cars yet.
Sat here now, I’d say short term there will continue to be a drop in prices for a few months but personally think things will then firm up as we go into Q2.
Only those that need to sell are currently doing so, whether that be because they have other cars coming or because they are stretched financially.

Not currently but there has been a £100k car and few around that price low £100’s. It’s happened sooner than most thought to be fair when posted in March.

Interesting, so possibly a private individual trying to get a better trade bid.

Yep, this is exactly how motorway work.
They set the reserve and offer it to traders for 24 hours.

How low can they go in the next few years?

It's 3 years old. How much would it have been new?

Sensible price, I’d say. I would guess that it would have cost around £115k when new so pretty normal depreciation and a good buy for someone.
Exactly, some cars loose 40% in that time.
Some really decent spec cars hovering just above the £100k mark, , they’re making the s and base models look really expensive. They must squeeze those models down at some point.
.Change the title to how long before a £80k 992gts!
Ok average mileage and not everyone’s favourite colour but even so £89k!

Is there really any shock that a model that is coming up to 4 years old, recently replaced by the Gen 2 derivative, is now available used under 100k when prices probably started around 100-115k ?
I suspect most 992 models will have lost around 30% in the past 3 years, to which the recent challenges in the financial industry pushing up rates of finance is having a significant effect. I don't believe that kind of % to be bad to be fair, as putting a similar amount in to a lot of other new vehicles would have resulted in a significantly higher depreciation.
I fully appreciate people don't want to suffer depreciation where possible, and certain Porsche models have been a pretty solid place to put money in the past, but those times have currently gone, so people now need to review their thoughts.
