Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a spare pair of mufflers (v. kindly donated by Big Bob) waiting to go on my car. I have always been keen for a bit more noise, and had previously thought about getting the Sommerfeld ones (same as Oettle), but quieter than the 105dB they advertise (they do a 102dB version if you ask nicely). Now I have a spare set, I figured doing the job myself if its easy (when I say myself, I mean watching my brother in law do it - he is a mechanic and has a welder). I wondered if anyone has done it themselves, or had it done here in the UK and has any advice on materials, dimensions of bypass pipe etc? A very extensive search on here hasnt thrown anything up (there are lots of posts with the word muffler in them...) but I thought I would check. Thanks, Josh

POST 2Original post

Morning, Try searching the word 'hack' or 'by-pass'. Rennlist has LOADS of info and so does www.6speedonline.com inlcuding pipe sizes and positioning of weld, also the benefits to using a 3.6 muffler over the 3.4...

POST 4Original post

Also, http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=38682 one I started on same topic last week. Its certainly an interesting subject, given the £2,000+ price OPC officially charge for a PSE....!

POST 5Original post

So is this the Mod/bypass ? All that is done is a pipe welded over ?? Nothing inside ??

POST 6Original post

Are the 3.4 and 3.6 boxes interchangable ? Maybe use to someone ?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Part-exhaust-...39:1|66:2|65:10|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

POST 7Original post

Even easier with the turbo, just drill a couple of holes :thumb:

POST 8Original post

Going from other threads the bypass pipe comes out the top where the circle 'dent' appears on the muffler then joins the outlet pipe. This by-passes one of the chambers or something :?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1) D'oh! 2) Pls forgive me as I did my search on here before I went on my 2wk holiday which I just got back from. Thanks Stuart & Tedzwedz for the links etc. Looks like there is enough info out there to allow me to have a go.

POST 11Original post

Yup, but that looks like it's got some sort of valve in there too, is that the regular PSE?

POST 12Original post

(As far as I know) Thats the valve that opens to let more noice out, when you push the button on the dash ! Where in the first pic I posted, that must be a bypass. Letting a little air through without going through the muffler giving a noise !

POST 13Original post

The Rennlist how to, as per the pipe to pipe version http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=334918&referrerid=51262 Here's the 6speed how to http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996/127331-pse-hack-done.html The pic below is the 3.6 style, same as PSE without the valve...

POST 14Original post

So at 105db, it is fair to say that you would be barred from taking it on most trackdays? Would 103db version opens up the doors for some of the tracks? It a big commitment of not be able to (or the option) to take it on track with the mod in place but on the otherhand would the sound make up for it.... :?:

POST 15Original post

See if you can find a second hand pair of mufflers and do the mod to them. There should be quite a few floating around from people doing the swap for aftermarket and PSE options. I would offer up mine but 2 people contacted me today seperately through PH, seems everyone is doing this...
